Chapter 428: You really won’t blame me?
The wedding was brief, yet completed swiftly without missing any parts. Everyone began dining, but Lu Beichen hadn’t arrived yet.
Ji Niandong kept her head down, quietly eating slowly, and Shen Congling kept watching her.
After a while, An Lin finally said, "Beichen is here!"
Ji Guoqiang put down his chopsticks and stood up. Lu Qingyuan then said, "What are you standing up for, my in-law? That kid should apologize to you!"
He reached out to press Ji Guoqiang back into his seat and sternly said to the just-arrived Lu Beichen, "Why are you so late? Today is your father-in-law’s joyous day, and yet you could be late?"
"It’s my fault for the delay!" Lu Beichen walked straight to the vacant seat beside Ji Niandong, raised his glass in apology, "Sorry to keep everyone waiting. I’ll drink first to show respect and also offer my blessings to my father-in-law and mother-in-law!"
His attitude was sincere, graceful, and composed in his gestures. Ji Guoqiang hurriedly clinked glasses with him, "It’s good that you came!"
He Meijuan also expressed thanks politely, "Thanks to you, we had a decent wedding today!"
"Not at all, it’s my duty!" Lu Beichen responded courteously.
"Didn’t you say that it didn’t matter if there was no wedding? That doesn’t sound right?" Ji Guoqiang commented from the side.
He Meijuan’s face turned red at his words, "It’s okay without one, but women still wish for a wedding!"
"Exactly!" Zhang Huiqin chimed in, and everyone laughed joyfully!
An Lin glanced at Lu Beichen and gestured with her eyes. Lu Beichen then reached out to hold the small woman’s other hand resting on the table and asked quietly, "What’s wrong?"
Since he entered, he’d noticed the small woman quietly burying herself in eating. It’s a joyous day, yet she seemed not the least bit happy.
"I’m fine!" Ji Niandong looked at him, "Drink less, so you don’t get a headache again!"
"Okay!" Hearing her concern, Lu Beichen replied, and asked again, "Are you not angry at me?"
"Why would I be angry at you?" Ji Niandong picked a dish for him with her chopsticks, "Hurry up and eat!"
Throughout the meal, she said nothing more, but her hand remained in his, not appearing to be angry at all.
Until the wedding ended and Li Yi was sending Ji Guoqiang and the others back, Shen Congling suddenly rushed over, holding Ji Niandong’s hand. Her eyes were still red, "Sister Tongtong, I know my brother did wrong, and I’m not asking you to forgive him, neither will I. But, Sister Tongtong, can you please not ignore me?"
"Are you upset with this girl?" Lu Beichen slightly exhaled in relief and showed concern again.
"No, I’m not!" Ji Niandong sighed, not quite in the mood to discuss it, "Husband, take Nian Nian to the car first, I’ll come after I’ve spoken with Lingling!"
"Okay, we’ll wait for you in the car!"
Once Lu Beichen walked away, Shen Congling held her hand even tighter. Ji Niandong spoke directly, "Lingling, I really don’t want to talk about your brother today, but I’m not blaming you, rest assured!"
"Then why won’t you let me continue as your assistant?" Shen Congling sobbed, tears falling continuously.
"Your brother is currently being frenziedly attacked by the media and netizens. Before, netizens already exposed you’re siblings, if you’re discovered with me, not only will you suffer but I also won’t escape unscathed! Besides, you’re about to graduate soon, find a proper job quickly, continuously being my assistant won’t help you!"
"Is that really it? You’re not blaming me?" Shen Congling cautiously asked again.
