Zhang Gengshan, seeing a stranger, immediately became alert, "Who are you looking for?"
Zhao Xiaochen looked at him and smiled apologetically, "I’m looking for Pei Qin’s family. I might have knocked on the wrong door."
Upon hearing that he was looking for Pei Qin, Zhang Gengshan sized him up. This young man of his age ought to be the suitor Ms. Pei had mentioned for her sister. He pointed in a direction, "In the alley next door."
Zhao Xiaochen thanked him with a bow and glanced down the alley, noticing both ends looked much the same, then walked from the side of the street.
Pei Yuan had gone to the noodle shop to balance the accounts, as they were running low on flour and ingredients and needed to procure more. She wanted to calculate and inspect them herself. Hearing that her elder sister had something for her, she dropped her work and hurried back.
Just as she turned the corner, without seeing clearly, she bumped into someone head-on.
Zhao Xiaochen, realizing he had collided with someone, and that it was a girl at that, quickly steadied her and then let go, apologizing, "It was my fault for not watching where I was going, and I bumped into you. I am really sorry!"
