Pei Qian ate as usual, but her anger was just the same.
When evening came, without waiting for anyone to call for her, she’d head back home and return the next day.
Fang Liuming and Mu Xiu hadn’t returned home since they were busy writing policy essays, and they could not focus as well at home. When they came over for a meal and didn’t see Pei Qian, they heard she had gone for self-reflection on the Taiping Mountain, and it was already her third day, causing Fang Liuming to be taken aback slightly. While buying braised meat on the street, he saw Pei Qian returning and called out to her, "Cousin Qian! Your elder sister said you’ve been to Taiping Mountain for self-reflection for three days now!?"
Pei Qian gave him a cold, sideways glance without bothering to acknowledge him. His mother had only quietly given them a few copper coins; he ate and took things from their home but wasn’t much of a help!
Feeling a bit embarrassed himself, Fang Liuming was rather generous with his silver coins. He’d buy some meat, vegetables, or pastries to bring over when he could afford it. Knowing that Pei Qin loved meat, he went out to buy some braised meat. Seeing that she did not respond, he gave it some thought then said to her, "I heard about the kimchi incident. Your elder sister making you reflect might not be about the kimchi, or because you talked back to her!"
"You don’t know shit!" Pei Qian had been in a very foul mood these past few days.
Fang Liuming’s face flashed with an embarrassed look, but he still tried to console her, "If your elder sister really wanted you to reflect, she could have locked you in the room without food and water. Instead, she let you run off to Taiping Mountain. Think about it, what’s on Taiping Mountain?"
Pei Qian remained silent, continuing her walk home.
"Cousin Qian knows, right!? The Taiping Mountain is covered with sunflowers, and they all turn following the sun as it moves. Your elder sister’s expectations for you..." Fang Liuming sped up to keep pace with her.
"Are you annoying on purpose!?" Pei Qian stopped in her tracks, turning around to glare furiously at him.
With an awkward smile, Fang Liuming said, "It’s good if Cousin Qian understands."
