Zhang Yan sat in the pavilion, drinking tea, watching Pei Qin teach Wang Ting and Wang Nuo how to skateboard, and turned his head to instruct the Changsui standing by, "Go and check in the kitchen to see if there’s any dough left."
The Changsui looked at him with some surprise and obeyed, heading to the large kitchen in the front courtyard.
The noodles hadn’t been thrown away yet. A chef’s assistant was planning not to discard them, but to take them home for a taste test; he had never seen such round, thick noodles before and wondered how they were made. Hearing that the second mistress’s brother was looking for those noodles, he eagerly presented them.
After the cooked noodles were served, Zhang Yan took a pair of chopsticks and tasted them gracefully. The dough had been mixed with something, giving it a distinct and interesting flavor.
Pei Qin taught until the afternoon, gave the two new skateboards to brothers Wang Ting and Wang Nuo, and then bid farewell to return home.
By the time she arrived home, it had already turned dark.
The house was very calm. Lady Fang had prepared dinner, and everyone was waiting for her to come back before starting the meal.
In the pot, there was the deep-fried oil cake that Pei Qin liked, rice congee was boiled, and spicy stir-fried cabbage was cooked.
