Canon Fodder

BOOK 4  CHAPTER 2 A NEW START

I came to in the Junction. I felt like a new man for some reason. Yes all of my damage was healed, but for the first time I didn’t fear death.

“That’s not it,” I mumbled, trying to make sense of my emotions. “I don’t give a shit about death,” I realized. It wasn’t the fact that I wasn’t scared about death. But of all the lives I had, all the people I had touched, I finally knew that failing wasn’t an option. Maybe some part of me had thought the worlds would go on fine without me. That the protagonist would come through like some unachievable hero, but now, Mikhail’s words were true.

“We are all human,” I said. Again I had put enemies and allies alike on some pedestal. Impossible to beat. They weren’t though. I had proven that when I fought Hisoka in Hunter x Hunter. Hell Luffy had proven that in canon when he failed to save Firefist Ace.

“They stumbled, and I was there to help,” I said. These worlds needed me. My people needed me, and I would be damned if I failed them.

Pushing all the worry away, I had a smile on my list as I brought up my most recent notification. Content originally comes from n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟f͟i͟r͟e͟.net

“They fucking took Chakra and my Quirk?!” I yelled. Realizing I had actually lost 2 abilities. Since one was assigned to my Challenger slot it got rid of it in the Junction. I looked up, my eyes locked on the Manga Hall. Above the door was written MANGA. I made a move for the door. My hand wrapping around the doorknob it didn’t budge and a screen popped up.

Warning:

This door was recently closed.

This door will be unable to be unlocked until next season.

“What the fuck is a season?” I asked. I had been starting to regret using my Hall Door Key on Comics, but it looked like no matter what I wouldn’t be able to open this door. I just hoped a Hall Door Key was all that was needed to open the door again.

“Fuck,” I said again. Looking at the door I pictured those that I left there, frozen in time. Toru, Hancock, Hinata, everyone was counting on me in those worlds. “I um, I’m sorry I lost my drive there at the end,” I said to the door. “I promise to come back better…and stronger.”

No answer from the door I brought up the other notifications I had been ignoring.

The list kept going, and honestly it felt really good to know I gave a lot of people hope. I guessed being the Villain Slayer and taking down Doflamingo had helped a lot of people. The only skill I recognized was the Water Gun Quirk from Khota in MHA, but I didn’t need that. There were more quirks further down the list but they sounded rather ambiguous. Since quirks could give you weird antennae and spikes in your body, I didn’t risk taking one I didn’t know.

Looking through the list the ones that intrigued me were: Breath of Life, Soulmate, Trump Card, Second Chance, and Just in Time. I had no way of knowing what these did, but everytime I moved to pick one my eyes went back to the list. I couldn’t help but notice a skill called Gemini. It was so vague that it sounded interesting. Gemini were the twins from the zodiac. One of the main skills in my arsenal was making Shadow Clones. I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe the Gemini skill could help amplify the ability.

After more thought I decided to say screw it and picked Gemini.

Please choose a Hall to receive Challenge Reward

I turned to the Comic Hall. Unsure what would have happened if I hadn’t gotten a Hall Door Key when I did, I stepped into it without hesitation. The Gemini skill was added to my screen. As I stood in the silent hall another screen popped up.

Season 1 of Challenges has finished.

Season 2 will not start for 1,000 in World Days

I let out a long sigh. I knew I felt better, but I was glad that another challenge wouldn’t happen for almost three years. Happy for a break to get my mind right, I turned to the door that held the 11 doors I would get new lives in. I had supposedly chosen the worlds before losing my memories. I knew at least Marvel was there, but there were any number of comic book worlds I could have chosen.

As I stood there, Mikhail’s words echoed in my mind. These worlds wanted us here because the heroes were doomed to fail. I didn’t know why we were pitted up against one another in these challenges if that was the end goal, but it was something latch onto. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me. So I wanted to be ready for these worlds.

Looking around the hall I noticed that there was one door on either side of me. I knew one side would manage the rejected worlds and the other would hold some sort of offshoot of Comics. Possibly a Smut version of the comic book worlds as they had been in the Manga Hall.

“They are easier,” I mumbled. Studying the doors. I walked to the left and found six doors inside. Two on each wall I assumed this was the offshoot of Comics and not the rejected worlds.

“Should I…” I didn’t want to say have some fun. The real reason I didn’t want to jump into the Comic Halls was I had no idea where the canon could start. I knew which door held Manga, but it could have thrown me in anywhere.

I closed my eyes, trying to sense my chakra, but it wasn’t there. Chakra was a huge part of my fighting style. I used it to empower me, make clones, use water, most everything.

“I’m not ready for mainstream,” I said. I had 1,000 days. I didn’t see any reason why I shouldn’t learn to fight with my powers again. Nen and Haki would have to become paramount in my training, and I had been slacking on Nen. it was time to focus instead of relying on chakra so much. I had to learn all of my powers, inside and out if I was going to keep doing this.

Knowing what could come my way in Marvel and DC, I would need all the power I could must. I moved to the first door on the left. My hand touching the knob I remembered my keys.

Keychain Inventory:

Door Key

Hall Key

“Shit, Door Keys aren’t used right?” I asked. I had forgotten I needed keys to open doors in the main room. I grabbed the doorknob and twisted. Instead of being asked for a key a new screen appeared.

Test of Strength - Handicap Skill

Requirements:

1. More than 5 Challenger Ability Slots

2. Season 1 of Challenges Complete

Would you like to handicap all of your current abilities in

new worlds? Bonuses will not be affected.

Yes/No

Your abilities would be brought down to a base strength.

Training the Ability and growing your physical strength

would bring them back up to original power.

The Handicap would increase the rarity of rewards offered.

As well as increase the amount of Challenger Slots

rewarded.

You can cancel the Handicap Skill at any time for specific worlds.

“Shit,” I said. The Handicap skill would dampen my power systems, but also increase rewards. Right then I needed all the rewards I could muster. Since I could cancel it at any time I clicked yes. The Handicap added to my Passive Skills I was done with notifications for a while. I wanted to enter a world and train, figure out what I could actually do once more. I stepped into the world and it all turned black.
