Chapter 1226: Chapter 1226: Born Singer (Part 6)
As the car disappeared from view, Sheng Yan finally retracted his gaze and looked down at the business card in his hand.
Meng Chuzheng, Agent…
Agent?
Sheng Yan tightly gripped the business card, parked his bicycle properly, and then, with his guitar slung on his back, entered the company.
Half an hour later, Sheng Yan came out with his head down.
He had just rescued his bicycle from a line of luxury cars, when his pocket began to vibrate with a struggling phone.
Sheng Yan fished out his phone and answered, “Hello?”
On the other end of the line was a slightly aged but concerned voice: “Xiao Yan, how did it go? Did you pass?”
With his head lowered, Sheng Yan kicked at the bicycle wheel: “No, I was late.”
“Huh? How were you late?”
“It’s alright, there will be another chance.” Sheng Yan knew the person on the other end couldn’t see him, but he still put on a smile: “Grandpa, I won’t keep you, I’m heading home now.”
Sheng Yan hung up the phone, exhaled slowly, cheered himself up in his heart, and rode off on his bicycle.
–
Chuzheng didn’t go to see Hua Huai; she spent her days at home eating and sleeping, sleeping and eating, living the perfect lazy life.
The few people who were trying to make trouble were caught within a couple of days.
King’s Account knew the young lady wouldn’t be so kind as to truly let them go.
That day, Chuzheng received a call from the company, asking her to come by.
The company rarely called her, maybe once in ten or fifteen days, since Hua Huai had hardly any activities. So why were they calling her all of a sudden…
At Chuzheng’s company, the system was such that the income of agents was linked to that of the artists; if an artist had no income, the agent only got a small stipend.
So it didn’t matter much if you went to the company or not. If you wanted to earn money, you had to work hard to make your artists earn money.
And Hua Huai was the only artist under Chuzheng.
Seems it’s time to resign…
Recently, Hua Huai hadn’t sought her out. Who knows what he was up to, but Chuzheng heard that Young Master Liang’s program had started and Hua Huai hadn’t gone.
Chuzheng parked her car downstairs at the company. As soon as she got out, a group of reporters carrying long and short cameras rushed past, surrounding someone coming out of the company’s main entrance.
Chuzheng glanced over; it seemed to be the company’s new rising star, Ya Cheng. Chuzheng hadn’t followed the news recently, so she didn’t know why those reporters had shown up.
Just as Chuzheng closed the car door, Li Lingling, carrying a limited-edition handbag, got down from the car next to her. Her gaze swept over Chuzheng’s car as she maliciously asked, “Meng Agent, where did you make a fortune recently? Driving a three million car!”
The last incident had left Li Lingling quite embarrassed.
Yet in recent days, Li Lingling hadn’t seen Chuzheng at all.
She did see Hua Huai once, but he was going in and out of the company alone without sight of Chuzheng.
“What does it matter to you what kind of car I drive?” I could be flying a spaceship, and it still wouldn’t be any of your business!
“Ha, it’s clearly none of my business, I’m just curious how Meng Agent suddenly got so rich. Could it be you’ve found a wealthy benefactor?”
Chuzheng replied without a change in expression: “Yeah, do you need a new benefactor who can get you a three million luxury car?”
Li Lingling: “…”
Everyone knows the truth of such matters, but who would admit it so openly?
Chuzheng had no sponsors, nor was she an artist, so she could say whatever she wanted without caring.
Li Lingling was different. Even as an artist on the fringes, she had to mind her words and actions.
Being choked by Chuzheng like that, she could only glare at her with resentment.
Ignoring Li Lingling, Chuzheng walked towards the company: “Stop glaring, surgeries are expensive, and saving money isn’t easy.”
Passing by, she tossed down this cold remark.
Li Lingling’s expression changed instantly. Nowadays, which artist hasn’t had some work done? The less successful ones are even more eager to look beautiful.
Looking at Chuzheng again… Li Lingling felt a pang of jealousy.
Chuzheng entered the company through the back door and headed all the way to her direct superior’s office.
“Xiao Meng is here.”
Chuzheng scanned the office; Hua Huai was sitting on the sofa, next to a man approximately in his thirties.
This man was the one who, in the original memory, became Hua Huai’s agent after Hua Huai rose to fame… also the same agent of Ya Cheng whom Chuzheng had seen below.
Fang Jun was handsome with a rugged charm. He was well-connected in the company, had abundant resources, and many artists wanted to work with him.
Today, he actually had to be here; could the plot be advancing prematurely?
Meeting Chuzheng’s gaze, Hua Huai’s expression turned a bit cold initially, but it quickly returned to a friendly smile, as if nothing had happened between them, just like before.
Inwardly, Chuzheng couldn’t help but think: An Oscar should drop on him.
“Xiao Meng…” The direct superior gestured for Chuzheng to sit, his face showing nothing unusual: “We called you here today for something.”
“Coincidentally, I have something too.” Chuzheng handed over her prepared resignation letter: “I intend to resign.”
Direct superior: “??”
Hua Huai suddenly stood up: “Xiao Meng, why do you want to resign? Didn’t you say we would face the difficulties together?”
“Did I say that?” Chuzheng tilted her head to look at him.
Hua Huai appeared anxious, as if he truly didn’t want her to resign: “You said it to me before, don’t you remember?”
“I never said that.” Chuzheng denied confidently, it was the original person who said it, nothing to do with her, no problem there!
Hua Huai was shocked and incredulous: “Xiao Meng, let’s talk alone.”
“There’s nothing to talk about.” Chuzheng glanced at her superior: “If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave first.”
Ignoring Hua Huai’s attempt to stop her, Chuzheng swaggered out of the company.
Hua Huai had other business and couldn’t chase after her.
“Ah… how things have gone.” The superior tapped Chuzheng’s resignation letter: “Since that’s the case, then Hua Huai, you’ll follow Fang Jun.”
Fang Jun frowned, having been suddenly called here, unaware of this happening.
“Director, I already have enough artists, I don’t have the energy…”
The director raised his hand slightly, and Fang Jun fell silent at the right time.
“I know you’re quite busy, but Hua Huai’s base conditions are good, I’m sure you can help him rise to the top.”
Fang Jun: “…”
True, Hua Huai had good base conditions, but he had been in the company for a while without making a splash…
But now, it was clear the director wanted to assign him, so Fang Jun had to take him on.
Once under Fang Jun, Hua Huai couldn’t remain as relaxed as he was with Chuzheng. Fang Jun was not pleased with him in various ways, keeping him in the company rehearsal room every night until late.
Sadly, it seemed Hua Huai’s talents were mostly in the looks department; his songwriting was poor, and his singing wasn’t much better.
Fang Jun took a song from Ya Cheng for him, which caused Ya Cheng to be quite displeased with Hua Huai over this matter.
–
Hua Huai had been wanting to find Chuzheng, and finally, after half a month, he got his chance.
It was at a cocktail party that Fang Jun attended with the currently trending Ya Cheng, and Hua Huai just tagged along.
Ya Cheng and Hua Huai shared similar looks and charm, and their musical styles were somewhat similar. There was also some tension between them due to Fang Jun moving a song for Hua Huai’s use, making them quite the nemeses.
However, Hua Huai understood the importance of opportunity and ignored Ya Cheng’s sneers throughout.
