Chapter 642 Sharing the Same Bed and Pillow
Three rounds of drinks and five dishes later.
The alcohol started to kick in.
The sounds of the drinking games were crisp, and the shouts rose and fell.
Of course, Ye Fan didn’t join the fist-guessing group; if he really joined, it would mess up the generational hierarchy.
One is a future uncle, the other a future father-in-law. How could he possibly play drinking games with them?
Chu Zhongtian and Xu Dalong were like two generals on the battlefield, using every strategy to make the other drink.
Back and forth, they drank merrily.
Ye Fan poured drinks while also taking them.
Chu Zhongtian lost two drinks, he took one; Xu Dalong lost two drinks, he also took one.
Doing this, he drank as much as Chu Zhongtian and Xu Dalong combined.
Chu Erzhu left the dining table after eating his fill, encouraging the younger generation to relax.
Sitting on the sofa not far away, he occasionally glanced at the lively scene with warmth in his eyes.
"For me, this is the greatest family joy," Chu Erzhu sighed, his eyes moistening.
He traveled far and wide for years, and only he knew how deep his longing and guilt towards his family were.
In the past, he wouldn’t even eat with the family, and was lucky to see them once a year for a quick meal. But now, seeing the joyous hustle and bustle of the family, this was the greatest happiness.
As they say, falling leaves return to their roots, a sentiment cherished by Huaxia people. Despite growing old, Chu Erzhu was bound by his duties and big responsibilities, sacrificing his small family for the greater good.
"Grandpa, what’s wrong?" Biyao brought tea and upon seeing her grandfather’s moist eyes, felt a pang of sadness.
"It’s nothing," Chu Erzhu composed himself with a gentle smile, saying with relief, "My granddaughter has grown up."
A simple sentence carrying countless meanings; how much of his granddaughter’s growth was intertwined with his companionship and love. In his eyes, he saw a grown granddaughter. In her memories, too many moments with grandpa were missing.
"Grandpa, have some tea," Biyao intimately stayed by her grandfather’s side, chatting and sipping tea, talking about things trivial yet cherished by Chu Erzhu.
"Drink less," Mengyao advised with concern, seeing Ye Fan drinking excessively.
"It’s fine. They’re enjoying themselves, and I don’t want to spoil the fun. I’ll take a bit of a loss to join them. Besides, you know my drinking capacity. Even if they pass out, I’ll be fine," Ye Fan replied softly.
"Girl, how can you side against us? Even if girls tend to be outgoing, you shouldn’t stop us from drinking. You only ask Ye Fan to drink less; why not care about me?" Chu Zhongtian shouted.
"This girl, so blind," Xu Dalong commented.
"I advise you, but you don’t listen," Mengyao lamented in grievance. "Moreover, as elders, pressuring Ye Fan to drink so much, isn’t that shameful? If either of you loses two rounds, Ye Fan drinks one; that’s already unfair. Now, losing four rounds and drinking one is good, yet Ye Fan ends up drinking most of them. Ye Fan’s kind and respects you as elders, but you ought to have some face."
"Nothing of the sort," Xu Dalong retorted, blushing.
"Cough, cough," Chu Zhongtian blushed too, coughing awkwardly, then found an excuse to counter loudly, "How dare you talk to me like that, with no respect for elders. Go, stick to your own affairs."
"Can you drink or not? Don’t think you can trick Ye Fan while mocking your daughter," Xu Li intervened sarcastically to her husband.
Chu Zhongtian sulked immediately.
It’s not that Chu Zhongtian and Xu Dalong intentionally wanted Ye Fan to drink more; both were tipsy. Ye Fan drank more than them but remained unfazed, challenging their pride, driving them to try out-drinking him.

This triggered Mengyao’s and Xu Li’s dissatisfaction.
"Sweetie, go watch TV with Ye Fan, ignore them," Xu Li commanded firmly.
"Okay, Mom," Mengyao agreed and went off with Ye Fan.
Only Chu Zhongtian and Xu Dalong were left at the table.
"Luckily, Ye Fan escaped quickly; otherwise, I’d have drunk him under the table," Xu Dalong bragged boldly, "Last time, I made him sleep for three days and nights."
"Brag away! With your drinking capacity, pretending before me, think about your weight," Chu Zhongtian scorned.
"Brag? I’m not bragging. You’d better believe I can drink you under," Xu Dalong started rolling up his sleeves.
"You can’t," Chu Zhongtian declared confidently.
"Don’t agree? Bring it on," Xu Dalong challenged.
"Bring it on! Who’s afraid of whom?" Chu Zhongtian said, raising his voice.
They resumed drinking.
Watching her dad and uncle enjoying themselves, Mengyao secretly rejoiced; as a daughter, naturally, she wished elders joy. With the engagement news, their enthusiasm was rare.
Xu Li cooked sobering soup and summoned Mengyao, instructing, "Quickly, take it to Ye Fan."
"Okay, Mom," Mengyao replied.
Although Ye Fan hadn’t drunk much, the soup made him feel better.
Soon, night fell.
Xu Dalong and Chu Zhongtian got drunk; Ye Fan helped drag them to bed for some peace.
They drank for a long time, initially fine, then resorted to trickery towards the end, striving for the other to drink more, resulting in mutual intoxication.
Then, Ye Fan, Mengyao, and Biyao accompanied Chu Erzhu watching TV.
Xu Li tidied in the kitchen.
If Xu Li hadn’t insisted Mengyao and her sister rest with Ye Fan and Chu Erzhu, they would have surely helped Xu Li with dishes.
They watched TV a bit, chatting about domestic topics.
Chu Erzhu retired early.
Xu Li also retired.
Before leaving, Biyao winked mischievously, teasing, "Sis, brother-in-law, Mom said she prepared a bedroom for you, just one. So you should rest early. Sharing a bed lets you do many things."
With a giggle, Biyao went off to sleep.
In the living room, only Ye Fan and Mengyao remained.
The two exchanged smiles, fully understanding the arrangement. The elders hoped for them to have children soon; sharing a bed was no big deal.
