"Patriarch Mao, you know as well as I do what kind of temperament our Xiao Family Head, Xiao Muli, has. He’s a big shot; every year at the family gathering, he makes us all wait for him." Another man, who bore a slight resemblance to Old Master Xiao yet whose eyes were full of schemes, remarked.
"Heh, Xiao San, what you’re saying isn’t right. What kind of status does the Xiao Family Head have? He doesn’t make us wait. Should he be waiting for me instead?" This was a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses, appearing much like a university professor.
"I’m sorry, Patriarch Gu, but what you’re saying is off the mark. Xiao Muli may be of the Xiao Family, but I and you are also Patriarchs of the Mao and Gu Families, respectively. Our Mao and Gu Families are only a little behind the Xiao Family; why should he always act as if he is above us? We’re definitely supposed to wait for him." Patriarch Mao was clearly displeased, as he too was from an aristocratic family and a family head; why should they be treated as less than in front of Xiao Muli?
