Chapter 9: Reciprocate
Jake froze when he felt the piercing gaze. He was hidden well behind a tree, but he could tell that the man was looking at him.
’He found me. How did that happen? Shit, I have to get out of here,’ Jake thought, but before he could move a muscle, the spear came flying through the air.
The man threw the spear—it moved so fast it became invisible.
[Danger! RUN]
The system sent out a danger warning to Jake, but Jake was not fast enough. The spear struck the tree and exploded it to bits. He flew through the air, pushed back by the force.
His back slammed into another tree and he collapsed to the ground, coughing up a mouthful of blood.
’Shit, I couldn’t even react in time. How can someone be this strong?’ Jake wondered. He bit his lower lip, trying to fight the pain.
The man walked closer and pulled his spear out of the rubble. His glowing red eyes locked on Jake.
"Who sent you?" he asked, pointing his spear at him. "Speak, and I’ll give you a painless death."
’Huh? What the fuck is wrong with this dude? You just see someone and assume someone sent them? You almost shattered my bones,’ Jake yelled in his mind.
"No one. I was only passing by," Jake said. He pushed himself off the ground slowly, wiping the blood with the back of his arm.
