Because Chu Lingxuan had brought Ming with him, he didn’t ride a horse but rather traveled by boat. They arrived outside Dingzhou in the evening and directly went to the Luo’s estate. He had hidden something in the estate’s secret chamber and needed to retrieve it before taking a horse carriage back to the countryside the next day.
Now the Luo’s estate was just guarded by a few servants.
Looking around, although renovations had been made, traces of the fire could still be seen. Chen Afu intentionally left these traces as a reminder to Liao Chen that he shouldn’t impulsively return to stay outside of Dingzhou.

The woman was extremely thin, perhaps too thin, which made her face look frightening. Despite the hot summer, she was wearing layered clothes and a shawl around her shoulders.
Chu Lingxuan frowned. In the past, if anyone dared to look at him like this, he would have ordered her to be thrown out. But now, he was older and had a few children; his temper had cooled.
