Compared to the outdoor wraith altars, the wraith energy within the cities was the most even, although not as rich as the altars themselves, but such even distribution of wraith energy clearly required a more stable foundation. Thus, although they had not actually seen it, they were able to deduce that the fundamental source of wraith energy in the cities must also surely be the wraith altars.
