Chapter 1329 - Chapter 1329 Chapter 1329 The Land of Quicksand
Chapter 1329: Chapter 1329: The Land of Quicksand Chapter 1329: Chapter 1329: The Land of Quicksand After deliberation, a few people made their way to the task hall and accepted the related tasks. They exited the hall to the astonished gazes of the onlookers–forbidden lands were not something to take lightly.
Naturally, a place recognized as a forbidden land had its reasons, and as the number of players increased, quite a few new recruits had taken on tasks recently, but hardly any completed them.
As time passed, only the newly arrived rookies would be tempted by the mission rewards to accept such suicidal tasks.
Li Yao and his team were naturally regarded as clueless rookies, but they paid no mind.
Then the two groups split up, each preparing the necessary supplies according to different needs.
The land of Quicksand was a hundred miles south of Darkflow City. Once they reached the sparsely populated area, Li Yao summoned the Hell Battle Scorpion, and everyone comfortably rode it on their journey.
The environment of the underground world was much to the Hell Battle Scorpion’s liking, and it moved faster than usual. Still, it took half a day to reach the outskirts of the land of Quicksand.
Here, no trace of adventurers could be seen. Li Yao immediately summoned the fire eagle, which flew up high to scout the area.
“How’s the situation?” Edward asked.
Li Yao frowned and said, “It’s a bit eerie here, the temperature is very low. These black sands seem to contain dark power, but they’re more like a magic vein–it’s hard to say for sure. My fire eagle can only see a range of less than ten thousand yards, and I can’t feel any arrays, nor is there any mist to block the view.”
Edward frowned as well. “My vision seems to be affected too. Using my special magic eye is actually worse than usual. Indeed strange.”
Vivian then spoke, “I don’t find it strange because I feel the aura of the Abyss, and it’s a deep layer of abyssal aura. As for the issues with visibility and temperature, that’s normal in the Abyss. Even those with extraordinary power can be affected by the special laws of the Abyss and can’t see into the infinite distance.”
“Abyssal aura, what I can be sure of is, there can’t be a passage to the Abyss here, otherwise the Spider Queen Ross would definitely know about it,” Li Yao contemplated for a moment and then said, “Now I’m less optimistic about our chances here.”
“Why?” Edward raised an eyebrow.
“Based on what I’ve heard, the land of Quicksand formed suddenly, and back then, there was a small city here before Darkflow City even existed. So I guess this was the location where the Lion Scorpion Goddess’ projection crossed dimensional planes. That would mean this place has a strong aura. The Spider Queen Ross naturally would have scouted here, so the Lion Scorpion Goddess likely wouldn’t stay. Of course, it’s hard to say for sure. Both the Lion Scorpion Goddess and Spider Queen Ross are known for their wisdom and cunning. The most dangerous place can also be the safest. Plus, having multiple hideouts means after Ross scouted this area, she wouldn’t repeatedly check, being afraid of an ambush. So, while the chances are slim, there’s still a possibility this is where the Lion Scorpion Goddess is hiding.”
To emerge from the era of gods as a main deity and to still survive when the majority of deities had fallen already spoke volumes. Even Li Yao didn’t dare to speculate too much on their thoughts.
“So, we should still scout the area, since we’re here already,” Edward stated.
“That’s fine. Some tasks can be completed, and the rewards are generous.” Even Li Yao was tempted by such generous rewards, mainly for the incredible amount of experience points–leveling up was extremely difficult for him now. Killing creatures for a month might not be enough to level up, but completing these tasks could grant well over half a level’s worth of experience.
“The Dual Claws of a Race-level Crested Dog leader, a hundred units of Sand Demon Scorpion venom, the eyeball of the Rattlesnake Demon King, and fifty units of rattlesnake venom, twenty gallbladders of leader-level demon snakes, and acquiring the Ant Queen Magic Crystal. We should be able to complete these tasks along the way, and they’re quite beneficial for us,” Edward said. “The only thing I’m worried about is quicksand. It’s hard to detect, and a huge pit of it could even swallow your hell devil scorpion.”
“There’s no need to worry about that.” Li Yao immediately released the Mechanical Snake and then summoned the Spider Tank and Death God 4000.
The team set off. With the Mechanical Snake leading the way, most of the quicksand pits were detectable. Even for the few that the Mechanical Snake couldn’t detect, the Spider Tank and Death God 4000 could scout ahead, allowing the hell devil scorpion to avoid the stealthy quicksand areas.
“No wonder this place is called the Forbidden Land. It’s said that these quicksand areas can move and their patterns are difficult to discern. Not to mention the endless Sand Demon Scorpions, just the quicksand alone makes this place impenetrable.”
Li Yao and the others weren’t idle on the back of the Battle Scorpion. As they traveled, Sand Demon Scorpions kept appearing to attack the team. Although there weren’t many each time, the battles broke out unpredictably.
It was only because the three of them were riding the hell devil scorpion that they could manage otherwise; dealing with the sudden emergence of scorpions from the ground would have been overwhelming.
Fortunately, with the hell devil scorpion, those strange scorpions never managed to attack the trio, and with the Spider Tank and Death God 4000 clearing the way, their journey was rather comfortable.
“Eh.” Li Yao suddenly exclaimed with surprise.
“What’s wrong?” Edward asked.
“Through the perspective of the Fire Eagle, I’ve spotted the traces of a Race-level Crested Dog leader. Damn, after more than five hours, we can finally complete a task,” Li Yao pointed in a direction.
Under Li Yao’s mental command, the hell devil scorpion arrived at the top of a sand dune. Edward and Vivian’s eyes suddenly changed color, flashing an eerie light.
“Master, are you joking? We don’t have the strength to kill them.”
Seeing the Crested Dogs, Vivian and Edward both took a sharp intake of breath.
