"University girls often loiter around the store, trying things on even though they can’t afford them—I see right through their vanity!" the female store owner declared with the air of a woman well-versed in such matters, confident in her assessment.
Xing Ling nearly laughed out of frustration.
Was that supposed to be a compliment on her youth?
But even so, that didn’t give anyone the right to insult her!
"Don’t leave. I’m calling the police. Close the door!" ordered the store owner, directing a sales assistant to lock up.
As Xing Ling watched the sales assistant lock the door, the store owner’s words while calling the police were clear, "A girl who can’t afford clothes is making a scene in my store and even threw clothes on the floor. I’m certain she can’t afford them; I’ve seen too many girls like her, consumed with vanity."
By the time the police arrived, Xing Ling tried to sit on a stool, but the store owner pushed her away, "Says who you could sit? You’re a suspect now! Once the police get here, they’ll lock you up, and you can have a good think about what you’ve done!"
Xing Ling, having seen it all, couldn’t help but laugh.
