Overlord: The Multiverse

Chapter 465: Yuri Alpha

Yuri

Yuri Alpha stood in the quiet alley beside Alex’s old apartment, where the teleportation gate shimmered in the air before her. She had just finished bidding farewell to Asia, Akeno, and Rias—all of whom still held deep feelings for Lord Alex.

The gate pulsed with steady light as always... until it didn’t.

With a sudden flicker, it shimmered violently.

Then, without warning, it snapped shut, collapsing like a broken mirror into nothingness.

Gone.

Yuri’s hand, which had been mere inches from the swirling light, hovered midair where the portal used to be.

She blinked once. Slowly. Her thoughts processed in an orderly fashion.

This was not normal.

Asia, standing just behind her with a gentle expression, tilted her head in concern. "What happened, Yuri-san?"

Yuri lowered her hand slowly and turned to face the girl, adjusting her glasses with measured calm.

"The portal... disappeared."

"Huh?" Asia stepped forward quickly, looking at the spot where the portal had been. "D-Disappeared? But... that’s never happened before, right? Doesn’t it always take you home?"

"It should have," Yuri said flatly. "Unless something—or someone—has interfered."

She reached up, tapped her earring, and activated her communication link to Nazarick’s gate controller system.

Silence.

There was no answer. Not even the click of connection.

That never happened.

Yuri frowned, her mind already calculating.

Nazarick’s world anchor has either been disabled or blocked.

This suggests external tampering.

Possibility: Dimensional interference.

Possibility: Emergency lockdown.

Probability: 83% hostile cause.

Asia’s hands were wrung together nervously. "Is something wrong, Yuri-san? Can you not go back?"

Yuri turned to her, eyes sharp behind her lenses, but her voice was calm. "It seems... Lord Alex has encountered interference. Or Nazarick has entered emergency lockdown."

"L-Lockdown? Is that bad?" Asia asked, her anxiety growing.

Yuri stepped closer, placing a firm hand on Asia’s shoulder. "Do not panic. If Lord Alex is involved, then this is part of a greater plan. However, I must confirm his safety."

She paused, eyes narrowing. "I will need to establish a stable communication array from this world. Without the gate, we may be isolated."

"But if... if you’re stuck here, does that mean everyone else is too?"

Yuri shook her head slightly. "Not everyone. Some may still be in other worlds. Cocytus and Narberal accompanied our lord to the next destination. Demiurge remains in the New World. I am the only one currently in this dimension."

Asia’s lips parted. "That means... you’re alone here?"

Yuri gave a nod. "Yes. But that is of no consequence. I am a maid of Nazarick, and I will execute my duty no matter the circumstance."

She turned away, surveying the surrounding street. Despite the chaos that might be taking place across dimensions, the mundane peace of Kuoh Town continued undisturbed. Children laughed. School bells rang. Birds chirped.

It made the silence from Nazarick all the more unnatural.

"I will need access to magical arrays," Yuri said. "Tell me, does this city have any leyline convergence points?"

Asia blinked, then nodded. "I don’t know; we need to ask Rias-san for that."

Yuri nodded.

Asia hesitated, then tugged at Yuri’s sleeve gently.

"If... if something is wrong... does that mean Alex-sama’s in danger?"

Yuri turned to her again.

"We do not know. But I know this much: nobody can touch my lord; he is that powerful."

Back in One Piece

"Are you sure Luffy landed here?" Zoro asked, glancing around as we stepped out from the wooded edge of the shore and onto a dirt path that led toward the town.

He looked unconvinced—understandably so.

"Come on, Zoro," I said, stretching my back a bit. "This is Luffy we’re talking about. He wouldn’t lose to a bird. But if he fell into the sea... that’s another story entirely."

Zoro raised an eyebrow. "He can’t swim?"

"Nope. Devil Fruit users lose all strength in seawater. Luffy’s one of them. Rubber body, sure—but he’s basically a rock in the ocean." I gave a small sigh. "And considering how reckless he is, this is going to be a frequent problem."

Zoro blinked, absorbing the info. "You’re saying the captain of our ship can’t swim."

"Yup."

"Fantastic," he muttered under his breath.

Despite the sarcasm, I knew Zoro wasn’t judging. That was just his way. If anything, he probably respected Luffy’s strength regardless of the drawbacks. That’s what made him reliable.

Still, what had me more concerned wasn’t Luffy getting lost or hurt. It was the butterfly effect. I didn’t want to tamper too much with events—especially emotional ones. The bonds Luffy created with his crew were important. If I changed too much, it might alter their loyalty, or worse, their path entirely.

But then again... this was Luffy.

He’d gather everyone, no matter what. That was just his charm.

Suddenly—

BOOM!

A thunderous sound cracked through the air as a cannonball slammed into a row of houses up ahead. Smoke billowed. Dust and debris shot into the sky as a section of the town crumbled in an explosion of fire and chaos.

Zoro snapped toward the source. "What the hell was that?"

"Looks like Buggy’s starting his party early," I muttered, narrowing my eyes.

Another explosion echoed in the distance.

I turned to Zoro. "Let’s go. Luffy might be in the middle of that mess."

Without a word, Zoro nodded and broke into a sprint. I followed right behind, boots pounding the ground, weaving through narrow alleys and market stalls now abandoned in panic.

But I wasn’t as fast as him. My body still wasn’t at full power—my magic was sealed to fifth-tier, and my physical strength was nerfed. I was slower than I should’ve been.

With the current Zoro and Luffy, I can easily overpower them, but in the future, I don’t know.

And I also didn’t know when I could hear from her; frankly, I started to miss her.

After another corner turn, I finally stopped.

"Go on without me," I called after him. "I’ll catch up."

Zoro didn’t stop or ask questions. He simply gave a sharp nod over his shoulder and disappeared into the smoke-choked streets.

"I guess I need to use my breathing technique. If I need to use my current time." With that thought, I took an ordinary katana from my inventory.
