Chapter 279: Lady of the House
The sun had begun to set as golden rays of orange, pink, and red bathed the luxurious estate of the Duke within a private coastal inlet.
A horse-drawn carriage pulled up to the gates of the estate, and an armed guard approached, “Do you have a meeting with his grace, the Duke Raven?”
A beautifully thin and toned arm wearing elbow-length black leather gloves reached out to caress the man’s chin, “Tell the Duke that his lead attendant, Lauren Davis, has been brutally murdered, and I am her replacement.”
A subtle wave of ki washed over the man as he nodded, “Yes, of course, my lady. And your name is?”
Constance stepped out of the carriage, “Tell the Duke, his new lady of the house has arrived.”
Internally, the guard couldn’t help but to think, “The Duke already has a wife.” However, he found his body unable to fight an overwhelming urge to obey this woman, and he simply nodded in response saying, “Please follow me. Right this way.”
Constance followed the through the gates, up the beautifully landscaped path to the front set of doors, and inside to a spacious atrium.
The guard, under the command of Shadow Slave, rushed to find the Duke. Constance slowly walked the perimeter of the atrium admiring the fine art and sculptures lightly running her gloved finger over them as she walked until a voice called from behind her, “Good evening. My guard informs me not of who you are but who you say you will be.”
Constance turned around with a smirk on her face, “Correct. The future lady of this house. The future Duchess Raven.”
