Chapter 855 - 860: A Person Who Understands
Wilson indeed had transaction records.
Yang Yi wasn’t simply testing the waters. From Wilson’s eyes and the tone of his voice, Yang Yi felt certain that Wilson possessed records of transactions or a ledger of some sort, and he had to get his hands on it. It wasn’t for anything else but to ensure Eric’s safety.
Why keep a record of all transactions? Wilson wasn’t wrong—a record was incriminating evidence. But despite understanding that, why had Wilson kept it anyway?
The reason was simple. In dealing with people like Eric, Wilson always had to stay on guard. Thus, these transaction records were not only his criminal proof but also a weapon to deter people like Eric. If Eric ever desired to silence someone permanently, he would have to consider whether Wilson might go down fighting, taking everyone with him.
But Wilson was too weak to withstand pressure. A few broken fingers and a bloody hole gouged into his leg were all it took for him to quickly surrender his lifeline.
There was no helping it; that was the limitation of people like Wilson. He neither planned to nor had the strength to delve into the underworld, yet all those he dealt with were from those ranks. Wilson’s only reliance was still the law.
Wilson was no scholar, and Yang Yi was no soldier, but the rules that Wilson depended on were of no consequence to Yang Yi. Therein lay the problem, and so, Wilson could only meet a tragic end.
Dragging his injured leg, Wilson was half-dragged and half-supported by Yang Yi into the kitchen. Then, from the dining table, Yang Yi picked up a box of tissue papers, flipped the box upside down, and trembling with only one hand free, Wilson opened the lid, spilling out a black, sealed notebook.
Had Wilson not taken out the notebook himself, Yang Yi would never have found it. He assumed that Wilson would’ve stored secret records on a computer or locked them away in a safe. But it seemed Wilson truly believed in the saying that the most dangerous place is also the safest. He had hidden the notebook in plain sight, which made it quite difficult to locate.
Yang Yi took the notebook and flipped through it.
The notebook meticulously cataloged profiles of several individuals: names, appearances, transaction details, and dates. Impressively, Wilson even attached photos under each person’s name.
