Chapter 690 - 696: Details
When it came to discussing the price, Yang Yi knew that the deal was pretty much secure.
Pyatov went to the warehouse with the now-dead Eugene to fetch guns. It wasn’t a big deal, but it was enough to show that Pyatov was undercutting his brother-in-law.
The saying goes, a dam is destroyed by ant holes. Many big issues start from something trivial. Right now, Pyatov stealing a few guns to satisfy his needs wasn’t a big deal. Even taking dozens or a few hundred at a time didn’t matter much because, for someone like Kanchelskis who handled large quantities of arms, a few hundred guns were nothing.
The problem was that Pyatov stealing these rifles to give to the gangs was definitely wrong and could cause trouble for Kanchelskis, yet Pyatov did it anyway. That meant he could backstab his brother-in-law in even bigger matters.
So, unless there was a surprise, Kanchelskis was done for, and so was Pyatov, who Chris had easily knocked out; when the nest is overturned, no eggs remain intact.
However, Yang Yi also worried that maybe Pyatov was just cooperating to save his own skin. Although Pyatov didn’t seem like a bright man, out of an instinct to survive, he might have suddenly become enlightened.
What came next was to see how Pyatov would quote his price. If he gave a perfunctory quote, then it was clear that he was just looking for a temporary fix. But if Pyatov quoted with a sincere intention to cooperate, it couldn’t guarantee that he really wanted to sell those cannons, but it would at least show some honesty on his part.
"Five hundred thousand is really too little," he said, "If you ask me, at least, at least two million US dollars!"
Two million dollars was a reasonable price; Pyatov hadn’t been too greedy.
