Jethro was able to gain the support of the high ranks of the Ukrainian government, so getting intelligence was actually quite easy. This at least spared Yang Yi and the team the time to do background checks on the target and the effort to figure out the target’s daily routine.
However, the Ukrainian government couldn’t fully control the military, so the simplest solutions, like reassigning the target or directly dismissing Feyel from military service, were not feasible.
Moreover, although Feyel’s rank wasn’t high, he had made a substantial amount of dirty money. With money, it was easier to get things done, especially when Feyel actually wielded real power. At least within the domain of his arsenal, he was king.
Feyel himself knew the situation was dangerous, so he stayed indoors whenever possible. Not only did he live on the military base, but his wife and children also resided there. As long as he was the head of the base, he would never step outside. If he were to be removed from his military position, then he would be useless to both Big Ivan and Deyo, and Jethro wouldn’t need to eliminate him.
But Feyel was unwilling to give up everything he had acquired, so he chose to exploit his position for as long as he could.
The fact that Feyel didn’t leave the base made things difficult. In order to take him down, one had to get close to him, or at least be able to see him.
The base was built during the Soviet era, located in a forest twenty kilometers outside of Zaporozhye. The entire arms depot and camp occupied a very large area and the base itself was surrounded by towering trees.
Lots of trees meant obstructed bullet trajectories, which implied one had to be very close to the target to shoot. But that wasn’t the main trouble; the real issue was the trees blocking the view.
Though Feyel’s position wasn’t high and his power wasn’t great, taking out Feyel, who was hiding inside the military camp, was still essentially an assassination of a key figure from any angle.
