Chapter 275 - 274: Undermine the Enemy’s Foundation
When the enemy was in pursuit, one had to flee for their life; when the enemy ceased their chase, it was only logical to seize the opportunity to make a swift escape. However, Zhang Yong and Yang Yi both concurred that understanding why the enemy had stopped was of even greater importance.
Sometimes, the enemy’s cessation of pursuit was no cause for celebration, for one could not fathom the reasons behind it. Optimistically, one might assume the enemy’s vehicles had collectively run out of fuel or that they had all gone mad and dropped dead.
Of course, none of these possibilities existed and to contemplate the worst-case scenario was even more terrifying: perhaps a more formidable Mercenary Group was lying in wait ahead, or maybe the enemy considered the chase futile and instead opted for launching missiles from a helicopter.
Thinking along these negative lines led to the realization that numerous possibilities existed.
Yang Yi gradually brought the car to a stop, inching it out of the dust-shrouded area at a snail’s pace, while everyone in the vehicle peered intently around them.
Very soon, Zhang Yong exclaimed with great surprise, "The enemy has retreated, they’re turning back!"
Xiao Ran spoke wearily, "That’s right, the enemies have left."
The people inside the car looked at each other, bewildered; none could fathom why the enemy would abandon the chase, much less why they would withdraw altogether.
After a brief pause, Yang Yi couldn’t help but blurt out, "What’s going on! What is this?"
Zhang Yong, face full of curiosity, said, "Did they give up because they knew they couldn’t catch us? Unlikely. Could it be that there’s a greater danger awaiting us ahead?"
Yang Yi shook his head, "No, I think it’s more likely that the enemy received some sort of intelligence, information decisive enough for them to choose to give up chasing us. Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense."
