Chapter 695: The Lost Memories
When he tries to recall whether he could drink alcohol or not, he suddenly was surprised to find that he had no memories of ever going to drink.
However, he did discover something. This discovery is a coincidence.
One night he was drinking warm water while shifting through the maps and the reports that Mayeux had given him about the west
But then Belarion came to his tent to speak about his days. If it was anyone else, Aeryon would have simply dismiss them and told them to talk about it tomorrow or later.
And not many people would dare go to the Khan and said that they wanted to meet him just to speak about their day
But Belarion is different.
Aeryon....this Aeryon did not only have the knowledge and thoughts of James, but as time passes, he also have more and more of the feeling of Aeryon and his memories.
Belarion is not merely a tool in the tribe, not just some mascot for an Innate Strength warrior. Aeryon has always treated Belarion like brothers and the feeling between them is truly sincere.
So, Aeron allows Belarion to enter inside his tent and Belarion speak about his day. And in the process of talking, Belarion ordered the servant to bring Ayrag.
Aeryon would rarely drink Ayrag when he is working but since Belarion was boisterous that night and Aeryon himself was swept in the moment, he also drinks it.
Then Aeryon discover that drinking warm water beforehand before drinking Ayrag made him able to drink Ayrag for a longer time and at the same time it also seems to accelerate healing
This is special to only Ayrag and not of the other wine or alcohol. Because there are some of the wine that is drink hot.
Ayrag is different. Because while it was intoxicating, it was firstly used as an herbal concoction. The flavour of milk goat added with the herb gives it that intoxicating properties.
And then it became the standard drinking custom. Aeryon then started drinking warm water before drinking Ayrag and those new nobles, those new people that is rising with him as he grows in status follows him even in his method of drinking and eating
It is like those nouveau rich trying to imitate those long lived nobles’ families, so that they would not look like country bumpkin.
And somehow it has become a custom that before drinking Ayrag, they serve warm water.
The truth is, it is not something that is a secret. Ashana had known about this for many decades. After all, they are the ones that developed it among the people and so they certainly knew about it
But no on promoted it and the effect is not that obvious. It is just a coincidence that Aeryon likes drinking it like this and what the superior likes, the subordinate would follow and that was the case for this matter.
Then there is the plates full of food. Aeryon had the vegetables and the meat. The vegetables are there but it is mostly to add some flavours. Carrot for example have that sweet flavour that become even richer when mixed with meat like goats, sheep’s and cows and Tayak
There is even Tayak soup mixed with green onions and salt and many new dishes.
Some of it is something that the cook he kidnapped from the south developed with the ingredients of the Steppe and some is things that he devolved.
The drinks and the dieses is put on the tables in this tent.
This tent alone is very large, wide and long.
To accommodate these many people Aeryon had already ordered the builders to set it up a few days ahead of time.
Usually, it would not be this big. And they would never use such a table.
Most of the time they use the low table.
The low table is shot and when one is sitting, they sit cross legged on the ground, the low table in front of them and the plates and the drinks are put on the left side of the table while the main dish is put in the centre
Aeryon created this etiquette.
Etiquette means rules and once these people who knows no rules begin understanding rules and following rules, Aeryon would be much at ease with these generals
However, for this feast that he had planned, he chose to bring out the table and chairs.
Aeryon brought out the long tables. It is like those long tables in those Viking series. However, there is no Viking or Norsemen in this world
If there is one race that is close or equivalent to the Viking of his world, that would be the Eresian race
Blonde hair, blue eyes, Caucasian features. Most of them occupied the north.
But unlike Yan who would wipe out or try to drive out the original inhabitants of the land, they mixed with the people of the Ashran and the Marynku.
Of course, there was fight in the beginning and there was conflict but slowly there is no difference in terms of treatment between a Marynku, Ashana and Eresian.
Aeryon himself has some features of the Eresian and Ashran as most people of Eresian also have some features of the Marynku and Ashran
Some of the Eresian people sail to different lands but those who survive the sinking of their land, landed here on the Steppe
That was the story. Whether it was the truth of not, not many people knows.
Some people think it is just a tall tales.
After all, the tales probably had changed with the passing of time
Some believe it religiously. Some believe that it had happened.
The story goes that their continent sink in a day of ice and fire.
And those who survived it rides a dragon boat and they sails the raging tides and many more drowned and many more died and only a few survived.
Some tied the dragon boats to each other and they sail through the perilous Sea
The Eresian has a Saga about this journey.
A Song that would be sung for an hour. It is the journey of those who survived.
Fighting giants’ sea monsters, the dark things that appears in the night, a journey of thirty three days and night before they arrived in the shore.
And from the shore, some create a settlement on the shore, some goes north, some goes south, some goes east, and some go west
Those who sings the song in the Steppe, is the descendant of those who journey through countless lands to arrive in the Steppe.
In some lands they become soldiers and mercenaries but the land could not be given to them
At times, they were given lands but the ruling class would not allow them to be at peace for long and only when they reach the Steppe, they find new home
And they settled here.
They migrated here, and assimilate and mixed with the Steppe people so much so that they are more Steppe people than they are Eresian
And as they settled and mixed around with the people of the Steppe, they bring their culture and their culture is accepted and mixed with the Steppe, with their myths also mixed with the myths of the Steppe, their gods also walk this land as they walk this land.
Gods are belief. They are faith
As long as there are belief, as long as they are faith....then they could be reconstructed.
Where their devotees are, there they would also lay.
The dead gods of Eresian appear again in the land of Steppe and adopt Steppe myths and the gods of the Steppe also mixed with the divinity of the gods of the Eresian
The reason they bonded and probably lack distinction of race is not because they do not know the difference between Ashran, Marynku and Eresian
It is that the people of the Eresian considered themselves Steppe people first before they consider their race.
And while in the beginning they might think of themselves Eresian before they are Steppe people, thousands of years had passed and most Eresian think of themselves as Steppe people first
Why?
Because they have been accepted.
And unlike Yan people who would occupied the land that people would share, the Eresian that came from the Burning Continent, appreciate and is full of gratitude
The concept of ownership of land was not something that the people of the Steppe have.
In the past, the tribes while they were fighting did not fight in the time of migration. It is forbidden. Because everyone fear the Winter God.
The winter came and they takes lives, and freeze people and livestock alike.
Hence the Ashana and the Wizancai, the Pencerita, the Norns, the wise men in the tribes would designate the migration period as a time not to kill but to put down all grudges
In that time, if one tribe tries to attack another, then everyone would attack them. Hence, in the ancient past, when winter came it is the safest time of the year from any raiding.
Then the Yan people came.
