Seeing Dugu Qianye’s modest attitude and none of the arrogance common among Alchemists, Wu Bo was very satisfied and personally took her to the Elixir Hall, where he announced her identity to everyone there.

The Alchemists all knew of Dugu Qianye, some had even gone to see her compete, and were excited to know that Dugu Qianye would be joining the Divine Temple. They readily accepted the news of her becoming the Hall Master. However, Dugu Qianye used her newness as an excuse to decline the position, saying she would be content to focus on Alchemy.

Seeing that Dugu Qianye really was unwilling, Wu Bo did not force the issue. He arranged another room for her and then left. Watching Wu Bo’s retreating figure from her courtyard, Dugu Qianye guessed that he was probably going to report the situation to the Divine Master.

Dugu Qianye guessed correctly. After leaving Dugu Qianye’s courtyard, Wu Bo headed straight to the highest room in the house, found a button, and the walls beside it slid apart.

He checked to make sure no one was around before entering. Once he entered, the walls returned to their previous state.

Down a winding secret passage, with clusters of white jade-fat flames burning on the walls and illuminating the path underfoot, Wu Bo walked until he reached a dark chamber. Inside, there was only a bed made of ice jade. A dignified-looking woman with pale, paper-like complexion was sitting cross-legged on it.
