Capítulo 1616: Chapter 2039: Protective
Even though he had seen the world, he only drifted through the sea of commerce and had never witnessed its bloody and dark side.
His family was blissfully happy, and he was the only child, loved dearly by his father, mother, grandparents on both sides.
Cousins, whether sister, brother, or otherwise, regardless of how strained relationships might be, they would still exchange greetings during the holidays, not as distant as Fan Rou’s situation.
Ye Ranran had long told him that the Fan Family’s situation was complicated, but seeing it now truly shocked him.
“Do they really hate her that much?” Lan Shao truly couldn’t comprehend this sentiment. After all, Fan Rou was their sister; how could they be so heartless?
“Do you know who did it?” Ye Ranran started cutting bananas after finishing the apples.
Lan Shao, caught off guard by her questioning, showed a slightly unnatural expression. After a moment, he boldly guessed, “Wasn’t it her two sisters?”
“That’s the guess, but there’s no concrete evidence now.” Yet, it’s not far from the truth.
Besides those two, there’s no one else targeting Fan Rou, but a clear answer is needed now.
“Is there anything I can do?” Clenching his fists, Lan Shao’s eyes sparked with resentment and rage, yet he didn’t know what he could do.
This feeling of helplessness gave him a sense of frustration for the first time.
“What you need to do is protect yourself well, and we’ll handle the rest.” Ye Ranran placed the cut fruit onto the plate.
Sunlight spilled through the window, casting a golden hue upon her face. Her clear eyes glimmered with ripples, and a few strands of new hair rebelliously slipped onto her forehead, further softening her features.
Ye Ranran appeared gentle and poised at first sight, even giving off a harmless impression.
With clear eyes, an innocent expression, and a slender frame, everything about her inspired a desire to protect her.
Yet, she was calm, and occasionally ruthless.
Now, Lan Shao recognized another side of her: protective.
She did her utmost to safeguard everything around her—her loved ones, family, and friends.
Ye Ranran seemed oblivious to his probing gaze as she picked up the fruit plate and walked outside.
“Rourou, have some fruit.” She patted Fan Rou’s face.
Fan Rou, after crying, her eyes still red and swollen, had regained a calm demeanor. She sniffled, “I’m sorry, Ranran, for troubling you again.”
“Troubling what? During the days I wasn’t here, you took care of the baby for me without ever saying it was a bother.”
Jun Mochan had told her that during her absence these two years, Fan Rou had even helped change Jun Xiaobao’s diapers, and occasionally stepped in when Jun Mochan was unavailable.
Yet Jun Mochan never invited her for a meal or had much interaction with her, only helping out when he could.
That is a true friend.
Ye Ranran cherished such sentiments dearly.
Fan Rou’s eyes reddened again, tears glistening as she wrapped her arms around Ye Ranran’s neck, “Ranran.”
Ye Ranran patted her back, comforting her in the same way she did Jun Xiaobao, “It’s alright, I’m here, don’t worry, isn’t everything backed by me?”
Her tone, as if saying she would hold up the sky for Fan Rou, made her break into a smile amidst her tears, “Ranran, if you were a man, I’d definitely marry you.”
Having a boyfriend like that must be blissful, right?
