Chapter 1500 - 1422: Worrying About Her
"You’re not someone I can afford to like." So I won’t force it anymore.
"I permit you to like me."
His condescending tone made Ye Ranran sneer, "Sorry, but I couldn’t care less now."
Fu Rong’s face flashed with anger, but he quickly suppressed it. He walked over and twirled a strand of her hair, "I care about you. Is that okay?"
"Being shameless, huh?" She didn’t like him anymore, and he turned around to like her.
Is this some kind of masochistic tendency?
"Wen Cai!"
"Oh, sorry, accidentally spoke the truth," Ye Ranran shrugged.
"Did your car really break down? Where did it happen?" He changed the subject.
Ye Ranran’s heart skipped a beat, and she immediately became defensively cautious: "At the second traffic light on Wutong Road. Because of the rain, it was hard to catch a cab, so I walked to the nearby bus stop to take shelter. Right then, you called me—what a coincidence."
"I was worried about you." For the first time, Fu Rong lowered his stance, but he clearly wasn’t adept at saying such sweet nothings. His tone carried stiffness, yet his eyes held tenderness.
It was awkward no matter how she looked at him.
Truthfully, he felt awkward too. The woman before him wasn’t the one he cherished; she was merely a replica. Someone as proud as him—how could he possibly fall for a replica?
It was nothing but a helpless choice under the circumstances.
At this moment, Ye Ranran couldn’t help but admire Fu Rong. If she were in his position, she probably wouldn’t handle it as well as he did.
"Do I need to thank you again? But I’m fine now, you can leave."
"I’ll leave after taking you home. It’s not like I can’t spare a bit of time." Fu Rong drew even closer.
Ye Ranran lifted her head, her brows tightly knit, her expression sharp as a blade: "Getting this close—should I assume you’re trying to take advantage of me?"
Fu Rong was just about to lean forward and speak by her ear when Ye Ranran immediately stepped back. Her eyes were full of vigilance and fierceness: "Could you be a little more respectful? If you have desires, as your secretary, I’ll find someone for you right away. Do you prefer someone chubby or skinny? Innocent or seductive? Or do you have other specific preferences? Just tell me, and I can arrange it!"
"I never intended to do anything." He appeared a bit flustered and hurriedly explained, stepping closer to her in his urgency.
"You stand so close, and you claim you didn’t intend to do anything? Haven’t you heard of maintaining proper boundaries between men and women?" Ye Ranran’s voice was firm and forceful like a thunderclap.
When had Fu Rong ever been interrogated like this? His temper surged, and with a stern face, he said, "What if I really intend to do something to you?"
"Then we die together!" She raised her chin, looking at him with defiance.
He grabbed her chin, "I really didn’t expect you to have such a fiery temper."
"And I didn’t expect you to treat my little sister this way usually." Wen Li’s voice came from behind Fu Rong.
He stood at the door, no one knowing how long he had been standing there or how much he had overheard.
"Brother." Ye Ranran called him softly, her voice carrying a tinge of grievance.
Wen Li walked up to her and pulled her behind him, "I think my little sister did the right thing. If you like her, you should pursue her. If you don’t like her, then let her go. What do you think you’re doing now?"
"What happens between us is none of your business," Fu Rong said, treating himself as though he were her older brother.
"Fine, I won’t get involved. I don’t care to. But there’ll come a day when you’ll regret this." Wen Li shook his head.
