Chapter 360 - 356: Hurting Her is Hurting Yourself (Part 5)
Robert nodded in agreement.
"President Land, there’s still time. Would you like to return to the office or go home?"
Asher Land thought for a moment, then simply uttered the word ’home’.
Robert understood and drove back to the Land Family estate.
He turned his head to look out the car window, a layer of cold air clinging to the window blurred everything outside.
He felt a weariness he had never experienced before, trying to close his eyes and let himself rest.
...
The empty room was so quiet that even the sound of breathing was remarkably clear.
Oliver Johnson stood by the window, looking at the man with the oxygen tube, his brows furrowed tightly.
"How long can he live?" He stepped out of the room and asked the chief doctor.
"Mr. Johnson, I dare not answer you rashly regarding how long he can live. The patient’s condition is very poor right now; if he can wake up in the next few days, that would be good. If not, then..."
Oliver Johnson said nothing; he didn’t want Sophie Smith to hate him forever, but if he returned Christopher Smith as a ’hostage’ now, he would have no leverage against Asher Land.
"Do everything possible to save him. Regardless of how high the medical expenses are, I will bear them."
"Mr. Johnson, may I ask, what exactly is your relationship with this man?" The chief doctor asked, somewhat puzzled. Oliver Johnson visited the patient here daily despite his business obligations, and he wondered what kind of person would cause him to do so.
"The relationship is not important; you just focus on saving him." After speaking, Oliver Johnson reentered the ward.
To his delight, he hadn’t stood by the bedside long before Christopher Smith miraculously woke up.
"Mr. Johnson..." Christopher Smith weakly opened his eyes, trying to sit up and greet him.
"Rest a little longer." Oliver Johnson carefully pressed his body down, a smile still gracing his lips.
"Mr. Johnson, where’s Little Sophie? I, I can’t see her..." Christopher Smith looked around but didn’t see Sophie Smith’s figure. His eyes grew somewhat anxious.
"Don’t worry, Miss Smith is busy with something, but rest assured here, the doctor said as long as you can wake up, there’s a good chance of recovery."
"But, but I want to see Little Sophie."
He was well aware of his physical condition; he felt his time was short. Now he wanted nothing but his daughter to peacefully accompany him through the last days.
"Mr. Johnson, I beg you, please help me bring Little Sophie back."
Oliver Johnson pondered for a while, hesitating to speak.
"Has something happened to Little Sophie? Mr. Johnson, please don’t hide from me."
Christopher Smith, agitated, sat up, his eyes full of pain.
"Yes, she is. There are some things I must do; perhaps this is my final counterattack."
"What happened to her?"
"Asher Land took her away. Although she wanted to stay by your side, that man wouldn’t allow it. That’s the situation, so please focus on recovering. I’ll try my best to bring her back to see you."
"Asher Land? What means did he use? Little Sophie wouldn’t willingly stay by his side; he must have used some trick! He must have!" Christopher Smith murmured to himself, his face growing paler, his lips gently trembling.
Oliver Johnson knew he had achieved his goal.
"Miss Smith had no choice; she called me, saying she wanted to come back to see you but is currently at the Land Family, unable to get away."
