Chapter 236 - 235: I’m Not That Important to Him (Part 1)
She successfully made herself sick, but it seemed like ’all her efforts were in vain’ because his attitude towards her remained as lukewarm as ever.
Thinking of this made her chest feel even more stifled.
...
Asher Land returned to the master bedroom and saw Sophie Smith standing by the window, watering a few potted plants on the balcony.
He naturally walked over, embraced her body, and then lowered his head, giving her a long, passionate kiss.
Sophie Smith was left dizzy and dazed by his kiss; she didn’t deny that he was a master in romance.
It was a long while before he let go of her.
"Why don’t you spend more time with Irene?"
"Why do you care so much?" As soon as he released her, she brought up another woman?
"Irene has a high fever, she wants you to keep her company, can’t you tell at all?"
Sophie had heard the words Irene said earlier; she knew Irene was jealous.
"But, I want to be with you," he whispered in her ear.
Why did she always want to push him towards other women?
"Irene, she..."
"Alright, don’t say anymore."
He seemed somewhat weary, as if he didn’t want to get entangled in the topic of her and Irene anymore. He released her, went to the bathroom, and took a bath.
Perhaps he really was tired these past few days; after his bath, he lay down on the bed and fell asleep.
Soon, the sound of his light, even breathing could be heard.
However, Sophie couldn’t fall asleep. She slipped on a pair of slippers and quietly left the room. As she passed by Irene’s room, she noticed the door was ajar. Not sure if Irene was asleep, but knowing from Nanny Garcia that her fever had reached 39 degrees, Sophie couldn’t help but want to check on her.
"Irene, are you asleep?" she asked, standing outside the door.
"Sister Sophie, I’m not asleep yet, you can come in," Irene’s voice was a bit hoarse.
Sophie pushed the door open and went in.
However, Irene’s room looked a bit messy; the pillows had been thrown on the floor and there was even broken glass near the bed.
"Irene, your room..."
"It’s nothing, I accidentally made it this way."
"I’ll get Nanny Garcia to come up and help you clean it up."
"No need!" Irene’s eyes were a bit red, as if she had just cried. If one were to guess what could make Irene cry, well, she could probably figure it out.
"Sister Sophie, I heard you ran into some trouble in S City. What happened?" Irene sat up in bed and asked.
"Oh, it was just a small matter..."
"A small matter?" Irene let out a cold laugh, "If it was a small matter, why would Brother Asher rush over there overnight?"
"..." Sophie didn’t know how to respond. She knew Irene was probably concerned about her being with Asher Land. To reassure Irene, she had no choice but to weave a few lies casually.
"Maybe he was going to S City for work, so he came by anyway."
"Sister Sophie, you’re really good at playing dumb!" Irene’s lips curled into a disdainful smile, "Brother Asher is wholeheartedly good to you, but what about you? You’re not even worthy of the kindness he shows you."
Sophie never expected that the always cheerful and lively Irene in front of her would harbor such resentment towards her, just because of Asher Land.
"To him, I’m not that important, Irene, you’re overthinking it." Sophie wanted to explain something, but Irene interrupted her again.
"I won’t believe what you say, I only believe what I see with my own eyes."
Everyone could see that Asher Land’s heart was inclined towards her, except for herself.
Sophie gazed out the window, the corner of her mouth lifting into a curved smile.
"Irene, no matter what the current relationship between him and me is, what you need to believe is, there definitely won’t be a final result between us."
