Chapter 2496 - 685: Meeting—Who Is This Child? (Part 2)
Could it be that someone is about to undergo a tribulation?
Striding out of the cave, Old Jin looked up at the sky. Dense, thick clouds blanketed overhead, as if the heavens were about to collapse. He noticed that the lightning and thunder were gathering right above his own cave.
Old Jin’s heart trembled. He already knew who was about to face the tribulation!
"Hurry, take the child down. Notify all the Elders and have them bring their weapons and rush over! The Saintess is about to undergo tribulation!"
The nanny was shocked and immediately ran out carrying the wailing little baby. Before long, several Elders of the White Tiger Clan all appeared at the cave entrance.
They looked at Old Jin standing by the bed and bowed. "Clan Leader, everyone is here."
"Where is the High Priest?"
The High Priest walked out slowly, leaning on a cane. "Clan Leader, I have already finished divining the matter of the tribulation. It is not the Nine Heavens Tribulation, you may rest easy."
Old Jin let out a breath of relief. As long as it wasn’t the Nine Heavens Tribulation, he could still resist a few blows.
With a sweep of his golden sleeves, Old Jin lifted An Yiqing from the bed. "Out of the cave, meet the tribulation!"
Mountain caves of the White Tiger Clan encircled the area, and on the altar at the very center, An Yiqing was placed on a thick pile of bedding. A soft, warm quilt covered her body. Old Jin stood at her side, looking up at the sky.
The dark clouds that had just been gathered above the caves had moved directly overhead. The lightning and thunder within them looked as if they could strike down at any moment. Several Elders gripped their weapons, fully on guard, ready to join their Clan Leader in resisting the tribulation.
Old Jin’s brows knotted into a lump; he had no confidence in his heart. An Yiqing’s Tribulation Pill was stored in a spatial pocket and he couldn’t take it out. She was completely unconscious, covered in injuries. In such a situation, things were truly tricky. Even if he could block a few bolts of heavenly lightning for her, Old Jin worried he wouldn’t be able to hold on and would end up harming An Yiqing.
But things had already come to this; he could only grit his teeth and give it a try.
With a flick of his long robe, Old Jin sat down cross-legged. His ink-black hair whipped wildly in the wind, and with each dull rumble of thunder, his entire being seemed even more arrogant and unrestrained.
Boom— The first bolt of heavenly lightning fell on cue. Old Jin and several Elders struck out together, firmly intercepting the bolt. The terrifying pressure swept in all directions. How fearsome was the Power of Thunder and Lightning, and yet someone actually dared to block it with their bare hands?
Old Jin’s entire body went numb, the pain so intense it was almost beyond feeling. The thick pillar of lightning slowly dissipated in midair. He swallowed down the bloody sweetness in his mouth, bracing himself as he waited for the second bolt.
Boom— The second!
Old Jin’s body shuddered, a flash of white light, and he transformed into a massive White Tiger. Spreading his four limbs, he pounced over An Yiqing, using his sturdy body to shield her from the heavenly lightning. The Elders were greatly alarmed and hurriedly unleashed their trump cards, trying to help Old Jin lighten the burden.
The thick pillar of lightning smashed into the White Tiger’s body. Old Jin’s four limbs went weak, and he almost did a face-plant into the ground. Inwardly he cursed: what bullshit tribulation, so damn fierce. Drooping his head to glance at the still-sleeping An Yiqing, Old Jin was full of frustration and secretly swore that once she woke up, he would demand a whole cartload of dried Xiao Yu as payment.
Rumble—
The third bolt of heavenly lightning, even more terrifying than the previous two, fell on cue, blasting Old Jin’s body until flesh tore and skin split. With a heavy thud, the huge tiger body collapsed onto An Yiqing. Cold sweat broke out all over Old Jin’s head—he mustn’t crush his master to death.
Vomiting a large mouthful of blood from his tiger jaws, Old Jin forced himself back to his feet. The power inside his body was already spent; the force of heavenly lightning was not something just anyone could withstand.
Taking a deep breath, he steeled himself to greet the fourth bolt with his life.
The Elders burned with anxiety, wanting nothing more than to drag Old Jin back. Just then, their vision blurred and a dark figure flashed past before their eyes.
The shadow shot straight into the lightning, and the next moment Old Jin was flung out. A man in purple robes caught the massive tiger body in one move and gently set him on the ground. Beside the purple-robed man, two little children were bawling their eyes out; it wasn’t clear whether from fear or something else.
Looking again into the lightning, the black-clothed man had rushed into the center, and without a second thought scooped the sleeping woman into his arms. His right hand grasped at the empty air, and a Black Giant Sword appeared out of nowhere. The fourth bolt fell at that moment; the man held the person in his arms tightly, raising the giant sword to the heavens!
The purple Power of Thunder and Lightning crashed down onto the Black Giant Sword and actually merged with it. The giant sword blocked part of the lightning’s might, while the remaining force all slammed into the man’s body.
The man did not move a muscle, his expression unchanged, casually receiving that terrifying power. He stared dazedly at the delicate, sleeping face in his arms, as if just like this, he was already content.
