Chapter 2465 - 679: Entering the Ancient
An Yiqing naturally stayed in Gu Yelin’s former room. The room was very clean, surely someone came to clean it every day. Unlike the cold, hard lines of modernity, this room was full of an antique charm, and the large carved wooden bed made An Yiqing not want to get up once she lay down.
This is a genuine antique! A priceless treasure!
Gu Yelin came out of the bathroom and saw An Yiqing snuggled in the bedding, her eyes twinkling mischievously like a little fox.
"What are you thinking?" He walked over and scooped her into his arms.
"I’m thinking about how much this carved bed would sell for," An Yiqing said without hiding a thing, her eyes curved with a smile.
Gu Yelin adored this foxy little look of hers. Peeking her pink lips, he said, "Over a hundred million should be possible. This house has quite a few antiques like this. If you like, we can take them all with us when we leave."
Take them all? An Yiqing blinked, wouldn’t Cousin Yulin cry to death?
The Gu Family Ancient Mansion in the ancient martial arts world was managed by Gu Yulin’s grandfather. Gu Yulin’s grandfather, named Gu Zhongyong, was Family Head Gu Zhongyi’s elder brother. Though they were biological brothers, their personalities were quite different. Gu Zhongyi was passionate and obsessed with martial arts, which was why he left the Gu Family back then to join the military and fight. In contrast, Gu Zhongyong was more scholarly, completely contrary to his name. Back then, their father intended to pass the position of Family Head to the elder son. However, the elder son was obsessed with antiques and paintings and took no interest in family affairs. Plus, Gu Zhongyi was smart and capable, which is why their father passed the Family Head position to him.
To this matter, these peculiar brothers had no opinions whatsoever. Their mother died early, and their father was busy with family affairs. It was the two brothers who depended on each other for survival. Even though Gu Zhongyong was obsessed with academic research, he took extraordinary care of his younger brother, which is why Gu Zhongyi was willing to shoulder the family’s responsibilities for his brother.
Later, Gu Zhongyi joined the military and left the ancient martial arts world. Gu Zhongyong had no choice but to manage the old mansion’s affairs. Later on, when Gu Zhongyong’s son was born, he entrusted it to him once he came of age. Further down the years, Gu Zhongyong’s grandson, Gu Yulin, was born. This child differed from both his father and grandfather in personality, as he loved making friends and exudes chivalry. Seeing this, Gu Zhongyong immediately handed over the Gu Family’s responsibilities to his eighteen-year-old grandson and retreated back into studying. Gu Yulin’s father also wholeheartedly agreed, thus it was settled.
Left with no choice, Gu Yulin was forced by his unsupportive father to take on the Gu Family’s responsibilities, becoming the head of the Gu Family Old Residence. Gu Zhongyi supported this decision as well. Everyone in the Gu Family acknowledged Gu Yulin’s impressive abilities.
So, poor Gu Yulin toiled away for more than ten years, managing the Gu Family better and better. If he knew his ungrateful younger brother Gu Yelin planned to move out the old mansion’s antiques, he might just collapse crying in the bathroom.
An Yiqing was merely joking; she hugged Gu Yelin’s waist and drifted into a dream with a smile.
In the evening, the warm orange sunset cast a gentle tranquility and a touch of melancholy over the old mansion. However, the Gu Family Old Residence was exceptionally lively.
In the hall, a dozen or so men and women were sitting, talking and laughing together, occasionally glancing outside.
Just then, a little girl about fifteen or sixteen said, "Hey, what do you guys think the new sister-in-law will be like? Will she be fierce?"
"She might be. If she’s not fierce, how could she handle our icy cold Third Cousin? If he’s cold, a fragile woman would probably cry from fright," a little boy said seriously.
"No way!" shouted another little girl in alarm. "Then won’t we be bullied?! No, I want a soft and cuddly sister-in-law."
A young man reached out and nudged the three kids, "Shoo shoo, what nonsense are you spewing? Third Brother may be a bit cold, but he’s not a monster. Is he going to eat you all? Have you forgotten? Every time he comes back, he brings you fun things and delicious food, you three heartless little rascals!"
"Hmm, that’s true." The first little girl touched her forehead, which had gone red from the push. "I was just afraid that cousin’s wife might be bullied by him. Think about it, cousin is so cold—how would he coax a woman?"
The young man paused; he, too, felt a bit concerned about this question.
At this moment, Gu Yulin’s wife Xuan Xuan came in with a tray of fruit, and hearing everyone’s conversation, couldn’t help but smile.
