Chapter 2417 - 672: The Crown Prince Ascends, Dark Council_2
Emory is very smart, he grasps things quickly. These days he has been busy in the Royal Library, reading through Country Zi’s political history of many years. Every day, as usual, he goes to Kremlin Palace to greet the Queen, maintaining the same level of respect without exceeding or lacking any. With her growing dissatisfaction towards Edith and the Durant Family, the Queen’s attitude towards Emory has visibly improved. She inquired about many of Emory’s recent activities, and upon learning of his study of Zi’s history, she became very interested. Moreover, she posed many challenging questions, all of which Emory answered one by one. This made the Queen realize that this child is genuinely devoted to his studies and not merely trying to please her.
Consequently, the Queen’s demeanor towards her grandson improved. His presence became more frequent beside her at various events.
Upon realizing all this, An Yiqing laughed. Opportunities always favor the prepared. Emory’s current achievements were inevitable.
During this time, Edith and her parents naturally noticed the Queen’s increased emphasis on Emory. The group grew anxious but remained clueless about the underlying issue. Then, Edith ’accidentally’ overheard Emory’s recent activities. Though she scoffed at them, she began to mimic them earnestly.
Studying Country Zi’s history and engaging in charity work; however, Edith added another task: hosting balls to mingle with nobility, hoping the Queen would notice her reputation in the circle.
Had it been in the past, the Queen would have greatly praised Edith. But now, she feels that Edith and the Durant Family are doing everything to form factions and ascend quickly.
This greatly displeased Queen Freyno, as she felt Edith was eagerly waiting for her demise. During a Royal Family meeting, the Queen directly criticized Edith for being uneducated and inactive. Edith was scolded to the point of shame, feeling unable to lift her head in front of family.
Seeing her daughter wronged, Meg naturally became angry. She felt her mother was being unreasonable; she had witnessed Edith’s efforts recently. The next day, Meg dressed elegantly and went to Kremlin Palace, subtly bringing the matter to the Queen’s attention.
It would have been better not to mention it. As soon as she did, the Queen’s expression turned sour. She truly felt that Edith’s family was too scheming, and that instead of plotting against her, they should focus on doing more practical things. Meg too was reprimanded, leaving the meeting in discord.
Listening to Emory recount the recent happenings, An Yiqing found his tone relaxed and unusually joyful.
An Yiqing listened with a smile and asked, "Emory, do you think the Queen is unaware of your actions?"
Emory was stunned into silence.
"Queen Freyno has remained unshaken over the years because of her wisdom and methods. Emory, you have underestimated her. Her intelligence and insight are beyond your imagination. Perhaps, at this moment, she is watching your every move from somewhere."
Emory felt a chill throughout his body, as if placed in an Endless Hell. He had indeed underestimated the Queen, forgetting how his grandmother had stood strong in Country Zi for decades. Her wisdom and foresight were unimaginable.
If that’s the case, does she know everything he’s done? But why hasn’t she exposed him?
Emory asked An Yiqing this question, to which An Yiqing smiled.
"I believe she is waiting for you to voluntarily confess."
"Voluntarily? Confess?" Emory was bewildered.
"That’s right, Emory, do not try to discern the Queen’s thoughts with your mindset. She is a sage who would never neglect the country’s obligations for personal passions. Every action of hers carries precise deliberation. Heed my advice: visit her tomorrow, and clearly explain everything. Speak your mind; I think she will admire your courage and integrity."
After hanging up, Emory was still in a daze. If he tells the Queen everything, wouldn’t that mean he has deceived her? Would the Queen forgive him?
He pondered for a long time, his mind in chaos. Agitated, he went into the bathroom and doused himself with cold water.
The cold water trickling over his skin gradually calmed his restless emotions. Emory suddenly remembered An Yiqing’s words, "A person in power tends to respect those who acknowledge her intelligence."
Suddenly enlightened, Emory finally understood An Yiqing’s words.
