Yusuf Zuck’s lengthy petition quickly got sent away, and Yusuf, along with the Rat King, continued on their journey.
A month later, they arrived at a market town, but the place was deserted, reeking with decomposed bodies everywhere.
The town appeared to be in disarray, as if the Immortal Citizens had hurriedly fled.
Yusuf examined the corpses and found that none had been killed; they all seemed to have died naturally, in their courtyards or on their beds.
Yusuf frowned deeply, as these people seemed to have died from a severe illness.
"Let’s go!" Yusuf wasted no time and continued heading south.
As they traveled, they found the main road crowded with people; some were with their families, while others carried seriously ill relatives.
The Rat King, being quite smart, didn’t wait for Yusuf’s instructions and went off to investigate. Soon after, he hurried back to Yusuf and whispered, "Plague, a great plague. This area is called the Southeast Province, and the plague has already started spreading throughout it. In some villages and towns, all the Immortal Citizens have perished, and even in some big cities, deaths are starting to occur. Right now, people are fleeing, trying to escape the Southeast Province to find refuge elsewhere."
"Plague?" Yusuf arched an eyebrow, "How do Immortals get plagued?"
"That, I’m not sure," the Rat King shook his head.
