Chapter 314: Lucy Clayton Plays Mind Games
"Ruth, they only allocated you this Buick Regal, which is clearly unfair. Is this Herman Holloway’s idea, or someone else’s?" Yusuf Zuck knew that Ruth Wilcox couldn’t possibly be unaware of what car was assigned to her, so he couldn’t help but ask while driving.
"Mr. Holloway is the general manager of the hotel; he’s in charge of everything, so of course it’s his idea. Of course..." Ruth’s tone shifted mid-sentence, "Since he’s responsible for the overall operations, he also needs to consider the feelings of others. I was fast-tracked into the company, and the other two vice presidents, even some of the middle management, would feel disgruntled, so Herman’s arrangement serves as a pacifier for the vice presidents and a warning to me."
"Herman Holloway is really a master at playing the game," Yusuf Zuck commented with a curl of his lip.
"Every person in power has their unique way of operation, so I’m not going to complain about that. A car is just a means of transportation. I was appointed by headquarters to focus on business. As long as the performance improves in the new year, I’ll score points at headquarters and at the shareholders’ meeting, so I’ll just do my job well and do it even better!"
"Then do you have any chance of ousting Herman Holloway, taking over his position?" Yusuf Zuck abruptly asked.
"There’s no chance for the time being," Ruth shook her head and replied, "I heard that Herman Holloway has connections with the chairman, who owns fifty-one percent of the shares. So the chairman represents absolute voting power or veto power at the shareholders’ meeting."
"Who is the chairman of New Century? Do you know?" Yusuf Zuck asked in surprise.
"I heard it’s the Hong Kong Petty Family."
...
Yusuf Zuck was speechless for a while. Ruth was out of the loop—now, Yusuf Zuck was the chairman of New Century.
