Chapter 298: Targeting Lucy Clayton
When dawn broke, Yusuf Zuck arrived at Fleur Carson’s residence where Ember Vance lived. He knocked on the door for a full three minutes, but there was no response from inside.
Yusuf’s first instinct was that something had happened, something had happened to little Ember.
After returning to his car, he didn’t leave immediately; instead, he forced himself to calm down and started to recall everything that had happened over the past day and night.
Someone was targeting him from the shadows; ever since he was brought into the police station, this hidden enemy had started taking retaliatory strikes against his team, even going so far as to attempt murder!
But who in the capital had a vend in for him?
Bud Trujillo, a patriarch’s son; the gang leader known as Brother Dao; perhaps even the Nash family from Zhonghai.
His bigger enemies also included Jeff Frost, who had troops at his command, as well as the gambling syndicates in Las Vegas. But if these two organizations wanted to go after him, they wouldn’t resort to these tactics, let alone try to control him through official channels.
"The source... the source is at New Era Film," Yusuf thought hard for half an hour. After thinking through everything that had transpired in the last few days, he faintly felt that the source of it all should be tied to New Era Film.
Although New Era Film had reported a police case, the case file was in Ember’s hands, so outsiders, even Ember’s immediate superiors, were definitely in the dark about it.
So the question was, why did the people at the Unity police station know about the case after he was brought there, when no one else should have known?
