Chapter 117: Magic engineering

It was the next day after the conversation between Baines and Shurphen, and they were to attend classes. With his disguise, he didn’t stand out in the large class hall, and luckily, Shurphen wasn’t attending the class. He didn’t think he could sit in the same class with a potential traitor. Fortunately or not, even after the professor entered about thirty minutes later, the students didn’t exceed fifty.

There was a strong demand for magic engineers in the world; however, the interests of students were diverse, with magic engineering among the least popular.

"A recap from the last class on spirit summoning, anyone?" the lecturer asked, and a girl raised her hand to answer.

"Yes."

"You said magic engineers are those who apply magic laws and principles to maintain, construct, design, and so on. And due to the amount of time heavily invested, we don’t have time to study magic, hence the reason for our weakness. To remedy that situation, we commune with spirits." She sat down afterward.

"Good. Now, this class is to understand the nature of spirits, summoning circles, and binding rituals." He looked around to ensure the students were following and continued,

"First, spirits are sentient magical entities tied to elements, emotions, or realms. Second, summoning is to call that spirit from its plane into the physical world using a medium, and lastly, binding. Binding is the pact or contract that must be made with the spirit after summoning it to the physical world. Leaving spirits free can make them unstable or dangerous."

"For today’s class, you will learn to construct a summoning circle." He raised his hand, and with the materialization of the magic circle, a large amount of wind swept by the class, and in its place stood a green wolf. "This is the end goal of this class: to be able to summon your contracted spirit."

The onlookers looked in amazement; after all, that wolf was a high-tier wind spirit.
