Rising god

Chapter 69: No Rest

The journey back to Dawnless was a blur of exhaustion and focus for Baines.

Within mere hours, his battered form crossed the threshold into the organization’s stronghold. As he briefly took in the surroundings, his sharp eyes caught on the intricate markings of magic circles etched into the ground around the organization’s building, their glowing runes pulsing with a soft, ethereal light.

’He finished it,’ Baines nodded and not even going any further, he was greeted by Wick. His loyal subordinate stood waiting, his expression a blend of relief and concern in it’s skeleton like face. It knew Baines, he wasn’t the emotional type. Asking if he was alright could even anger him. So it just stood.

"Good job," Baines said, his voice steady and laced with true gratitude. It was reasons like this he found Wick valuable.

As Baines nodded in acknowledgment once more, he passed by the third executive. The man’s eyes lingered on Baines, taking in the dried blood crusted on his skin, the tattered state of his clothes underneath the robe, and the unkempt tangle of his hair.

"Won’t you rest for a while?" the executive asked, his tone tinged with worry. Baines’s current appearance was a stark contrast to his usual composed demeanor, messy, disheveled, and like a warrior pushed to his limits.

Baines didn’t respond. His silence was answer enough.

Wick suddenly muttered a series of arcane words under his breath, his hands tracing the air as he activated the large magic circle etched into the center of the room.

A sharp Zippp... sliced through the air, and in an instant, they vanished, leaving the third executive standing alone.

He let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping. Baines was younger than him, yet the man’s relentless drive never ceased to amaze, and worry him.

’I hope he doesn’t fall,’ the executive thought, his gaze drifting to the fading glow of the teleportation circle.
