Chapter 609 - 598: It’s More Fun in the City
Bai Shan knew the reason and became even more fearless, applying himself to his studies with greater effort. Not only did his classmates in Class C feel the pressure, but even Manbao, who had always kept pace with him, began to find it challenging.
After weighing her options, she decided to put the courses in her system aside and took an extended leave from Teacher Mo. Apart from flipping through medical books before sleep to review and refresh her knowledge, she devoted all her attention to her current studies.
Besides studying the same texts as Bai Shan, Mr. Zhuang had also arranged two additional courses specifically for her, which were what she was supposed to learn in the first place.
Seeing her read so many books and write so many assignments every day, Bai Erlang felt nearly bald with vicarious stress.
Manbao, on the other hand, was quite accustomed to it, mainly because there was nothing much fun to do lately.
Moreover, she found it quite interesting to help Bai Shan fight the academical battles against those from the Luojiang County school, and with Bai Shan as excited as if he had been injected with chicken blood every morning, she was very motivated too.
Bai Erlang, squeezed between the twin pressures of Mr. Zhuang and Bai Shan, was always nervous, torn between looking for opportunities to slack off and feeling guilty, forcing himself to study.
He couldn’t take it after a few days and took advantage of Mr. Zhuang teaching Manbao to excuse himself to the latrine and sneaked out of the study. He then turned a corner in the yard and squatted down on a piece of land filled with flowers and plants, next to the utility room.
This spot was just out of sight from the study, hidden unless one looked from the entrance of the yard.
Bai Erlang sighed deeply. Zhou Lijun, who had been hoeing weeds, looked up at him and asked, "What are you doing?"
Bai Erlang hadn’t realized there was someone else there and was startled, falling onto his bottom.
