Book 6: Chapter 16: Celestial Wheel
This Metropolis Domination War had three Apostle Cities: Devil’s Horn, Sword Nation, and Tyrant City. Besides those, five or six small Floating Cities joined the fight, with a total of seventeen different Sapient Races taking part.
The death list for the intermediate and higher-level Apostle Domination War did not have any details. Everything Qin Lun knew was about the Novice Apostle Domination War. There were over eight hundred Novice Apostles who joined this battle. Each of the three Apostle Cities sent about two hundred contestants, while the remaining two hundred spots were split among those five or six small and medium-sized Floating Cities.
The 800-plus Novice Apostles were not all gathered together. They were split into four separate Domination War zones. Each zone had around two hundred people. Once the Domination War started, unless an Apostle died or voluntarily gave up the soul binding of their Invitation Letter, they had to stay in the isolated zone until the Domination War ended.
The Domination War had a time limit of two weeks. Except for their own equipment and a few recovery treasures, the eight hundred Novice Apostles were not allowed to bring any recovery items, food, or water into the Domination War area.
During the Domination War, the Apostles’ Storage Space, Team Warehouse, and Team Channel were all blocked. Even communication equipment was temporarily sealed. Shattered Starry Sky tried to scatter Apostles from the same city or the same team into different zones.
In other words, unless they were very lucky and found a preset signal from a companion in the same zone, Apostles could not contact each other to form organized Domination War groups.
Because the Domination War lasted a long time and was held inside Shattered Starry Sky, Shattered Starry Sky treated this Domination War as a Quest World. After the Domination War ended, it would give corresponding mission evaluations based on the Apostles’ combat performance and resource gains.
When Qin Lun saw the rule that said they could not bring food or water, he was shocked. He reached to his waist and then smiled bitterly. All his equipment was there. Even the newly obtained Adis Short Staff was in his chest pocket. However, a small bag that was tied to his waist had disappeared.
This bag contained ordinary food and a water pouch. They were not recovery items, just dry rations to fill the stomach.
Even though Apostles had Law Bodies, their daily activities still used up energy. This energy consumption also needed food to replenish it. If they did not eat or drink for a long time, their Health Points and Stamina Points would slowly drop. After it reached a certain point, even their basic body attributes would shrink. Like normal people, they could starve to death or die of thirst. “It looks like our first challenge here is to fill our stomachs!” Qin Lun’s expression turned serious. He truly did not expect that the survival battle Shattered Starry Sky mentioned even included this.
Actually, he could not be blamed entirely. Reviewing all four Quest Worlds Qin Lun had experienced, he never had to worry about food. Even in Nals World, they had an animal and plant guide. After hunting, they could trade for food at the Sanctuary Camp. Besides, they had a real wilderness survival expert with them—Disciple Hansen. Even when they camped outside occasionally, he did not need to bother himself.
Atlantis Sacred City had been abandoned for some time. He did not know if there was any edible food left in the city. Although there were wild plants and animals everywhere, hunting during the Domination War would obviously bring huge trouble for the Apostles.
Whether they searched for the Atlanteans’ stored food or hunted these plants and animals, it would give hidden enemies a chance to attack. Because recovery items were scarce, Qin Lun originally planned to hide somewhere as soon as he entered the Domination War area and watch others fight. Then in the last few days, he would come out to clean up the mess.
But now, since he had to come out from time to time to search for food and hunt, this easiest plan naturally fell apart. Also, to avoid being found and ambushed by certain Apostles, he had to constantly change his resting spots during the hunts.
“What a bother!” Qin Lun pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance. He turned around and searched the apartment again, hoping to find some stored food.
Unfortunately, the original owner had taken most of the food when they left. The refrigerator in the kitchen only had a little raw meat left, and it had long gone rotten.
“Boom!” Just as Qin Lun was about to leave the apartment, a huge explosion sounded faintly in the distance.
Qin Lun rushed to the window in one swift move. He lifted a corner of the curtain to look outside and immediately saw a plume of black smoke in the distance.
“About two hundred meters from here. Probably caused by fire magic!” Qin Lun’s eyes glinted, and a mocking smile soon appeared on his face. “Arrogant fool!”
No matter how many Invitation Letters someone got, they had to wait until the Domination War ended to get the collateral inside. The Domination War lasted two whole weeks. Fighting and winning everything right at the start, besides using up their own mana and Magic Scroll reserves, had no meaning at all.
“The Domination War just started, and someone is already fighting. That place should attract a bunch of battle-hungry Apostles…” Qin Lun narrowed his eyes slightly. “Maybe this is the best chance for me to carry out that plan!”
Thinking of that, Qin Lun did not hesitate anymore. He abandoned his earlier caution. With a bang, he pushed the window open and leaped out of the apartment.
This apartment was on the fourth floor of the entire residential building. After Qin Lun leaped out the window, he was in mid-air. Just when he was about to fall, a rope-like black shadow shot out from the young man’s left hand. Its tip made a “ding” sound as it hooked onto the balcony railing of the apartment above.
Using the convenience of the Claw Chain, Qin Lun quickly climbed to the rooftop of this apartment building. He used his Heavenly Insight Eye to scan the surroundings, then immediately dashed off in the opposite direction of the fight…
“Whoosh!” A figure dropped from the air and landed in a messy alley. This alley was behind a restaurant. The drainage ditch that the restaurant once used to dump slop was now overgrown with lush weeds.
The figure had a bundle tied with what looked like a tablecloth around his waist and held a wine bottle in his hand. His sneaky manner made it seem like the word “thief” was written on his face. However, the figure clearly did not think he was stealing. Taking without asking was stealing. Taking things without an owner, how could that be stealing?
“Such a big restaurant, and only three bottles of wine left!” Qin Lun sighed, then raised his head and took a swig.
“Strong liquor!” Qin Lun grimaced, then stuffed the bottle into his chest. He looked around and muttered to himself, “I’ve already looked around the nearby area and am familiar with the surroundings. I should be able to find the specific location on the map now!”
Qin Lun walked to the side of the alley and sat down leaning against the wall. He focused his mind into the Death Notice. Soon, a 3D projection of a city map appeared in front of him. If any living Atlanteans saw this city projection, they would definitely recognize it as the three-dimensional image of Atlantis Sacred City.
Before the Metropolis Domination War, Qin Lun made all sorts of preparations. These preparations were not only about equipment and items but also included battle plans for various situations. The city map was the basic part of all battle plans.
This map came from the Demon Clan. Although Atlantis Sacred City was not destroyed by outside enemies, and the Sapient Races that invaded the Atlantis continent, due to various restrictions, were unable to enter the city to explore, after so many years of fighting the Atlanteans, getting a map of the Sacred City was not very difficult.
Qin Lun spent three whole nights, through memory and calculation, completely engraved the entire city map projection into the Death Notice. And now, he wanted to use what he saw and heard in the Domination War area over the past ten-plus minutes to identify this Domination War zone within the city map.
“Found it! Huh, this big restaurant behind me seems to have been quite famous before!” Qin Lun chuckled lightly, then sank back into thought.
This Domination War zone he was in was located in the northern part of Atlantis Sacred City. This city area once had a large Apostle team called “Celestial Wheel.”
Because of its unique historical origins, the Apostle teams formed in the Atlantis civilization were different from the large Apostle teams in traditional Apostle Cities. The large Apostle teams in Atlantis Sacred City should not actually be called teams; they were more like complete combat legions.
At its peak, Celestial Wheel had over four thousand Apostles, including all ranks from Probationary Apostles to Legendary Apostles. The legion had strict systems, like a well-structured Apostle army.
There were only five such large Apostle legions in Atlantis Sacred City. All Apostles, whether Novice, intermediate, High-Rank, or Legendary, were included in this system.
These five large Apostle legions, as disciplined as armies, were not only the Atlantis people’s key to victory in external wars but also the main culprit behind Atlantis’s eventual downfall.
The legion system allowed Atlantis to concentrate vast resources and Apostle combat power. The large Apostle teams from Devil’s Horn were like children compared to these Apostle legions. A single team was no match for them, and when united, they could not cooperate well due to their respective interests.
However, the problem was that this highly restrictive Apostle legion system could not last. The High-Rank Apostles in the legions were fine; they went through the toughest creation stages with the Atlanteans and deeply understood that only by uniting could they protect their home.
But the new Apostles who entered the Atlantis continent later could not accept it. They not only faced dangerous Quest Worlds but also had to go to the battlefield as cannon fodder after returning to Atlantis. Not only was their personal freedom restricted, but they also had to hand over part of their mission earnings to the legion.
Apostles constantly struggling on the edge of life and death—how could they willingly accept such restrictions? If they were ordinary people without the ability to resist, it might be okay, but once Apostles entered a Quest World, no one could control them.
Therefore, the new Apostles who entered the Atlantis continent later all used their own methods in the Quest Worlds. Some joined Apostle teams from other continents and were taken away directly. Others tried every means to obtain items for stealth and hiding in Quest Worlds, then quietly escaped the Sacred City after returning to Atlantis.
In just a few decades, the large Apostle legions of Atlantis Sacred City faced a shortage of new talent and eventually led to the fall of Atlantis civilization.
“The headquarters Demiplane of Celestial Wheel probably won’t be in our Novice Domination War zone!” Qin Lun’s finger swept over the city projection, and a glint appeared in his eyes. “But they should have a legion branch in this area. The sooner I find this branch, the higher the success rate of that plan!”
