Book 6: Chapter 3: Clearing Up
The two pieces of equipment that Morning Star prepared for Qin Lun deviated somewhat from his original request, yet were more to his liking. However, this was not strange at all. Given the capabilities of the Lost Team, even if they did not have them internally, they could obtain them through trades at the Dimensional Plaza.
Kelly knew that Qin Lun had changed his class to Jungle Hunter. Those high-rank Apostles had a very deep understanding of combat professions. They could deduce that the Glove of Sacrifice was more suitable for him than a simple earth defense spell, which was not surprising at all.
However, setting the value of the two pieces of equipment precisely at 250,000 Shattered Crystals definitely carried an intent to test him.
Qin Lun’s three items were officially valued at exactly 250,000 Shattered Crystals, but this was the result of Kelly slightly pushing down the price back then. If Qin Lun did not attach any conditions to this transaction, it would clearly indicate he was deliberately trying to curry favor with “Lost”.
Because of Kelly’s favor, he had already repaid it with “Flamingo”. He was the one who initially suggested changing the person for the trade. If he still intended to take a loss, even if only twenty or thirty thousand Shattered Crystals, it probably meant he had ill intentions.
But if Qin Lun significantly raised the price, it would also indicate he had ulterior motives. He would be seen as someone who initially hoped to move Kelly with “Flamingo”, but then, when Morning Star came to trade, he felt regret and wanted to make up for some loss from this deal.
Of course, if Qin Lun was clever enough to directly see through Morning Star’s intention, then Morning Star wouldn’t mind that instead.
Such a clever Novice Apostle – how could a major team hostile to “Lost” be willing to send him out as a spy? The Quest Worlds themselves were extremely dangerous, and on top of that, having to worry about one’s own people… Since this Novice Apostle was so sharp, why would he be willing to be a spy pawn like this?
…
Lost actually sent a psychological master to test him! Qin Lun felt a slight surprise in his heart. When he proactively gave “Flamingo” to Kelly, it wasn’t due to excessive generosity, but had his own purposes. Qin Lun’s intentions had two layers! Large teams were easy to enter but hard to leave, and they had complex grudges with other large teams. If Kelly really accepted such a big gift, then in the future she would naturally find it harder to pull him into Lost. He was using money to avert trouble!
Besides a few Serial Killer companions, Qin Lun subconsciously placed himself at the top of the food chain and viewed nearly twenty thousand Apostles in Devil’s Horn as food. However, even a tiger cub can be trampled to death by a wild boar. Given his current strength, he certainly did not want to get involved with a behemoth like “Lost”.
The other layer of intention was somewhat similar to what the young blade master guessed; Qin Lun was using a small stake to win big.
The difference in strength between Kelly and Qin Lun was like that between an adult and a child. If a child suddenly enthusiastically gives an adult a lollipop, the hidden meaning is, ‘Quick, buy me a big toy!’ At the very least, it should be returned with a bunch of rock candy popsicles!
However, the current reaction from the Lost team gave Qin Lun a feeling that his clever plan had backfired!
Judging from the transaction process, the attempt to use a small stake to win big was not successful. Although Kelly gave him a scroll, its value should be about the same as “Flamingo”. And Lost sending a psychological master to test him clearly indicated their interest in him had grown even greater.
Both of Qin Lun’s intentions were like meat buns thrown to a dog. The other party ate the meat buns but acted the same as before!
Thinking of this, Qin Lun felt speechless. He simply got up and went out. He planned to first retrieve the traded items and the two things Kelly gave him from the Auction House. He was still very curious about what kind of Skill Scroll Kelly would give him.
Returning to the villa from the Auction House, aside from the Xiana Scale Armor and “Sacrifice” glove traded with Morning Star, the Skill Scroll given by Kelly opened his eyes. And the other uniquely styled card, just as Morning Star said, left him somewhat puzzled.
“Heavenly Insight Eye?” Qin Lun looked at the Skill Scroll sent by Kelly, his expression changing uncertainly.
His current three needs for equipment skills: Frank’s chainmail armor was already covered by the Xiana Scale Armor, the earth defense spell was replaced by the “Sacrifice” glove, so the last remaining need was an image monitoring device.
Heavenly Insight Eye was not equipment, but a skill. It was an Eye Technique that could turn Perception into images displayed on the retina. Seeing this skill, Qin Lun quickly remembered his own Clock Eye.
When the third hand appeared on the Clock Eye, Perception would form Time-Space Threads, capable of simulating some of the enemy’s attack and defense skills. Meanwhile, Heavenly Insight Eye turned Perception into images fed back to the retina. The former made Perception become like touch, the latter turned Perception into vision. Although their forms of expression were different, the law changes were actually somewhat similar.
Compared to an image monitoring device, Heavenly Insight Eye had both advantages and clear disadvantages. The advantage was that Heavenly Insight Eye could perform three-dimensional monitoring; both sky and ground were within the perception range, with no blind spots. Image monitoring devices, however, could only aim in one direction, not covering a three-dimensional space, and the line of sight could be blocked by obstacles.
The disadvantage of Heavenly Insight Eye was also obvious. Since it was a skill, it required the use of Mana Value to maintain. It couldn’t be kept on continuously like an image monitoring device, which gave enemies opportunities to exploit.
However, the skills he currently needed to use Stamina Points for were only Clock Eye, Maze Spirit Channeling Art, and Pentagram Crystal Mirror. With 810 Stamina Points plus mana recovery items, it was sufficient to maintain Heavenly Insight Eye for a period of time.
Qin Lun thought for a moment, then rubbed his hands together and directly learned Heavenly Insight Eye. Equipment was just equipment after all; even the most perfect equipment could be countered by other equipment. Skills, however, belonged to abilities that could be constantly practiced and improved. No matter how you looked at it, they had more potential than equipment.
Besides, given his current strength, there was no equipment and skill combination without any weaknesses. As long as the enemy deliberately targeted him, there would always be a way to find an opportunity for a sneak attack. It was better to slowly train the combination of Clock Eye, Heavenly Insight Eye, and Detection Aura. Perhaps when he improved to a certain level, the combination of these three skills would be more practical than an image monitoring device.
After learning the Heavenly Insight Eye scroll, Qin Lun checked his Death Notice and immediately blinked. He actually couldn’t find this skill at first. Only when he checked for the third time did he notice changes in the skill descriptions for Clock Eye and Detection Aura. And the runes related to these two skills in the Magic Network Core were now connected by a new type of rune.
It turned out that Heavenly Insight Eye had been directly absorbed by these two other Perception-based Eye Techniques and detection skills!
The second skill effect of Clock Eye, that is, the skill effect of the three clock hands, underwent a strange change. Originally, the Time-Space Threads formed by the three hands could simulate some of the enemy’s attack and defense skills. Now, it also had image feedback ability.
If the Time-Space Threads did not analyze the enemy’s attack and defense skills but only maintained image feedback, then the consumption of the Time-Space Eye with three hands wasn’t high, and its maintenance duration was actually much longer than before.
As for the passive ability of Detection Aura, it was upgraded from C-grade to C+ grade, and the detection radius expanded from fifty meters to seventy meters, which was an unexpected bonus.
This outcome greatly improved Qin Lun’s mood, and he no longer obsessed over the image monitoring device.
Feeling pleased, Qin Lun took out the Dagger of Sin and several blood pearls from his Storage Space. These blood pearls were obtained from the hill cave; they should all be from souls who died at the hands of the Hill Giant over the years.
Qin Lun used the dagger tip to pierce the blood pearls. Visible strands of blood slowly merged into the dagger. The black glow on the surface of the Dagger of Sin became deeper and more profound, shimmering with an intimidating light.
After all the blood pearls turned into powder, the Remnant Soul quality of the Dagger of Sin reached 870 points. Of course, not all these Remnant Souls came from the blood pearls. Part of the soul power from the strong individuals Qin Lun killed – the Reincarnator Matthew, Professor Green Katharine, the female Apostle Qingming – was also absorbed by the dagger.
The soul power of these strong individuals was very potent. After each battle, the Remnant Soul quality of the Dagger of Sin increased a notch. Now, it was finally not so far from reaching four-digit Remnant Soul quality.
When the Dagger of Sin rose from Ten-Kill Slayer to Hundred-Kill Slayer, it gained an additional skill, “Fate Severance”, and its attack power probably had a significant improvement as well. Qin Lun was quite looking forward to what new changes would appear when the Dagger of Sin upgraded from Hundred-Kill Slayer to Thousand-Kill Slayer.
From the time he returned from Nals World until now, the originally full Storage Space had become much emptier. Two intermediate and low-level Reflex Training Scrolls were used by Qin Lun and Frank respectively. Qin Lun raised his dagger technique to Intermediate Proficiency. The hunchbacked servant, due to only using the low-level training scroll, had not yet advanced his Intermediate Axe skill to High Rank Mastery.
The leap from Intermediate Proficiency to High Rank Mastery in technique was a big one. Qin Lun’s firearm skills were only recognized by Shattered Starry Sky after being raised to High Rank; otherwise, they would just be unorthodox skills with much less power.
The Fifth Tier Bone Shield consumption scroll was absorbed into the “Sacrifice” glove. The Seventh Tier Wood Prison Totem was too high level and had to be abandoned. Even if forcibly absorbed by the glove, it could only reach the Sixth Tier. Although there was only one tier difference between Sixth and Seventh, it was the gap between intermediate magic and advanced magic. Qin Lun naturally wouldn’t waste it like that.
After several days of busy work, Qin Lun’s Storage Space only contained the Flesh Golem, the Wood Prison Totem scroll, the Unicorn Soul, the Maiar Crystal Ball, three fusion crystals, and a pile of miscellaneous equipment materials. Additionally, there were 148,000 Shattered Crystals and one Mid-Magic World Silver Card.
That pile of miscellaneous equipment materials, like the blood pearls, were spoils from the hill cave. Qin Lun originally planned to directly throw them into the Shattered Starry Sky exchange list. But after seeing the Unicorn Soul and the Maiar Crystal Ball, he changed his mind.
The “Unicorn Soul” looked like a Tarot card, with a holy and elegant unicorn soul sealed on the card face. The Maiar Crystal Ball still contained the soul of Witch Meisha.
Qin Lun had an idea. He wanted to use the Unicorn Soul and Witch Meisha as Artifact Spirits for Burial of Light and Darkness. These two souls happened to have one with a sacred attribute and one with a dark attribute. And those miscellaneous equipment materials… Even though the laws within the equipment had completely degraded, they could still serve as equipment materials based on their substance quality. How bad could they be? They would be perfect for refining Burial of Light and Darkness.
As for whether Witch Meisha still had soul consciousness… Well, Joey was the one who killed Witch Meisha anyway, so he didn’t mind killing her one more time!
After clearing out the storage, Qin Lun finally turned his attention to the other item Kelly had given him – that uniquely styled card
