Death Notice

Book 5: Chapter 49: Vimas Heartfelt Gift

Master Vima placed three items on the wooden stump. They were a black sleeveless leather armor, an old-looking scroll with simple patterns, and a flat flask about the size of a palm.

The Grand Druid touched the scale-like pieces of the black leather armor, and a look of reminiscence appeared in her eyes.

“You are too weak, you can’t use high-rank Druid items yet! This leather armor was made from a ninth-rank Earth Drake I killed when I was young, during my travels in Nortongsi. Its skin is tough yet flexible, and has good defensive properties. I adjusted the size, so it should fit you.”

Master Vima’s expression was complicated. Originally, this item was meant for Casey. But before she finished adjusting the size, its owner had already changed.

“This scroll was given to me by an old Mage friend of mine. It stores a purely defensive seventh-rank Wood Element magic called ‘Wood Prison Totem’.” Master Vima pointed at the old scroll on the table. “If you encounter danger in the Silent Forest, or meet Casey and the other two, open this scroll. Although it’s not as powerful as ‘Tree World Descent’, it should protect you for a short while!”

“A Wood Element defensive magic?” Qin Lun frowned slightly. He already had ‘Tree World Descent’, a ninth-rank Wood Element magic that could both attack and defend. Why would Vima give him another Wood Element defensive magic? Unless…

A light flashed in Qin Lun’s eyes. He immediately focused his mind into the Death Notice to check his skill system. Sure enough, he saw that the name of the ninth-rank magic ‘Tree World Descent’ had turned gray and could no longer be used!

“Hmm, you probably noticed. While you were unconscious, I checked your Arcanum Nodes. To prevent you from recklessly using ‘Tree World Descent’ in the future, I placed a seal on it. When your mental power grows to a certain level, it will unlock by itself!” Vima glanced at him and said calmly.

“That’s not necessary, Master!” Qin Lun’s brow furrowed deeply, and he said with a bitter face, “I’m not a child. Having an extra magic for self-defense is good, there’s no need to seal it away!”

‘Tree World Descent’ was probably his biggest gain from this Quest World. Even though he couldn’t use it for now, once he returned to the Shattered Starry Sky, he might find a way to fix his mental power problem. But now, with Vima’s seal, even if he found a way to break it, he likely wouldn’t be able to use it for the next two or three Quest Worlds. “This is not up for discussion. Do you think I don’t know how you survived this time? Although I don’t know when you gained the Forest Goddess’s favor, Anna Artemis is, after all, a deity. She won’t always come to save you!” Vima extended a slender finger and poked Qin Lun’s forehead hard.

“Also, be careful. Our Moonlight Goddess of the Forest is very petty. You should think carefully before dealing with her. Don’t come crying to me after suffering a great loss!”

Hearing Vima’s words, Qin Lun’s face changed multiple times. He thought: Master, you’re too late. Your disciple has already suffered a great loss! What was meant to happen has already happened. The most precious thing I had was taken by that goddess!

Thinking of this, Qin Lun secretly sighed. Let it be sealed then. Vima was right about one thing: ‘Tree World Descent’ was indeed not something he could use at his current level. The feeling of utter powerlessness when casting that magic was still vivid in his memory.

If this magic wasn’t sealed, he would always hold onto hope during dangerous times. Next time, there might not be another goddess to save him. Sealing it was good; it would cut off his reliance on ‘Tree World Descent’, making him act more cautiously and plan more carefully.

“Okay, Master, I understand.” After thinking it through, Qin Lun nodded obediently and turned his gaze to the third item on the table.

“This thing contains the sap essence of the Ancient Elf Tree. Over the years, I’ve used up most of it.” Master Vima picked up the flat flask and handed it to Qin Lun, a look of heartache on her face. “No matter how severely injured you are, as long as you have one last breath left, this can save you. Use it sparingly, just a small sip each time. It should be enough for three or four uses!”

Ancient Elf Tree Essence: The item is taken from the heartwood of the Ancient Elf Tree and contains the purest Life Energy. First drink: slightly increases the drinker’s Constitution and Mental Will. Subsequent drinks: one ounce of essence temporarily increases Constitution by 15 points and Mental Will by 10 points. Effects last for fifteen minutes.

Restores 500 Health Points and 300 Stamina Points within the first 10 seconds. For the following half hour, base recovery rates for Health and Stamina are increased by 10 times. Can also expel toxins and evil forces from the body, promote cell growth, heal internal organ injuries, and reattach severed limbs.

Seeing the prompt in the Death Notice, Qin Lun’s eyes lit up. This was the most powerful recovery item he had ever seen, bar none. Restore health and stamina, remove toxins, heal wounds, mend bones—it was practically a cure-all!

Even the tube of WHB Special Potion that Frank drank, aside from granting five more temporary Constitution points and better physical resistance, couldn’t compare to this thing in terms of recovery.

No wonder Master Vima looked pained. Plot Characters don’t have Law Bodies. Compared to other Legendary Equipment, life-saving recovery items are actually more precious. The Grand Druid was essentially giving Qin Lun her second life.

“Master, this is too precious…” Qin Lun hesitated for a moment, then pushed the flat flask back. “It would be better if you gave me a few more magic scrolls!”

“Take it when it’s given to you. Just remember your teacher’s care.” Vima said with a gratified expression. “Although the Ancient Elf Tree essence is quite precious, the Ancient Elf Tree can produce more after some time. Don’t worry about me.”

Qin Lun smiled wryly helplessly; he really wasn’t being polite. Although this item was precious, for an Apostle, its value wasn’t as great as that of magic scrolls. He would rather trade it for a few more scrolls. Not having skill scrolls was fine; he wouldn’t mind having more consumable scrolls.

After Qin Lun put away all the items, Vima took out a piece of jade from her bosom and handed it to him.

“This contains the mental imprints of your teacher, as well as a few of my old friends. If you encounter Casey and the others, or any other life-threatening danger, just crush it. We will receive the signal. Even if I’m not at the camp, my friends will come to help you!”

Qin Lun took the jade, a light flashing in his eyes, then put it into his clothes. With this jade, he finally felt everything was worth it. If he could enter the Nals World again next time, although this jade wasn’t a formal Waymark, it had some of the functions of a Waymark.

After walking out of Vima’s tree house, Qin Lun looked at the starry night sky and felt extremely relaxed. He immersed his consciousness into the Death Notice to check the black leather armor Vima gave him, as well as his Law Body which was transformed by Anna Artemis’s divine power.

Earth Drake Leather Armor (Leather Scale Armor)

Quality: Purple Gold

Material: Earth Drake Hide

Weight: 1200 grams

Protection: 10 points

Equipment Ability Laws: Equip Attachment, Earth’s Protection, Earth’s Blessing

Equip Attachment: When a body part covered by the armor is injured, the armor, driven by the drake’s soul, will automatically cling tightly to the injured area to prevent heavy blood loss.

Earth’s Protection: This armor is attached to the remnant soul of the Earth Drake. It will absorb free earth elements in the air to form an earth elemental protective layer on the outside of the armor.

Earth’s Blessing: The person wearing this armor receives the blessing of the earth, enhancing a portion of their Strength and Agility attributes. The increase varies depending on the specific terrain, but will not exceed 10% of their base Strength and Agility.

Equipment Description: This equipment belongs to a World Treasure. No usage conditions. The equipment is attached to a high-quality Remnant Soul. Under special conditions, this Remnant Soul can transform into an Artifact Spirit for the armor. After possessing an Artifact Spirit, this equipment has a certain chance to advance to a Legendary Item.

Looking at the Earth Drake Leather Armor, a faint smile appeared on Qin Lun’s face. He had finally obtained a practical piece of defensive gear. Compared to this Purple Gold armor with the potential to become a Legendary Item, the red Shahbakh Ring and the Leather Trench Coat he recently took from the Guardian were completely outclassed.

After checking the armor’s information, Qin Lun focused his attention back on his own body attributes. Perhaps because obtaining the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross made Anna Artemis very happy, the Forest Goddess used her own power to help him purify his Moonlit Elf bloodline. Not only did it restore his Soul Lifespan to 65/65, but the boost to his body attributes also far exceeded the base 10% increase from the Knight’s Cross.

Name: Qin Lun; Apostle Number: 70053

Bloodline: High Moon Elf

Soul Lifespan: 65/65; Health Points 425, Stamina Points 600

Explosive Power 26 points, Agility 33 points, Constitution 22 points, Perception 38 points, Mental Will 28 points, Protection 26 points

Bloodline Abilities: High Elf Whispers, Moonlit Summoning, Shadow Talent, Wind Element Affinity, Wood Element Affinity, Earth Element Affinity

Qin Lun looked at his attributes and thought for a while. Based on past combat experience, he added two new body attribute data entries to the Death Notice: “Mental Will” and “Protection”.

This experience with ‘Tree World Descent’ made him feel that Stamina Points alone couldn’t fully explain the usage conditions for magics of different ranks. He needed to add a “Mental Will” data assessment.

Furthermore, after many battles, he gradually realized that due to the diversity of Apostle bloodlines, it was necessary to add a “Protection” attribute to the body data. This was used to differentiate the defensive capabilities of an Apostle’s Law Body under the support of various bloodlines and defensive skills.

Based on his performance in battles, Qin Lun initially set his current Mental Will at 20 points and Protection at 10 points. But after he modified the data formula in the Death Notice, he suddenly found that these two body data entries had increased significantly…
