Death Notice

Book 3: Chapter 47: Team Emblem

Summon Overlay merged with the Mazer Summoning Art, and the spindle-shaped crystal representing the Star Magic Web also merged with the Mazer Summoning Art and the Drift Technique, turning them into two small magic symbols on the crystal’s surface.

The magic symbols representing the Mazer Summoning Art, the Drift Technique, and the Crystal Mirror Magic Array each gathered a few points of starlight. The Drift Technique and the Crystal Mirror Magic Array were even connected by a tiny streak of starlight, indicating some degree of connection between these two magics.

The three magics that had merged with the starlight from the Magic Web were slightly more complex than before. Although no skill changes appeared in the Death Notice, Qin Lun believed that once he fully mastered these three magics, the additional starlight runes would certainly help improve them.

When he came out of the Training Ground, it was almost afternoon. Qin Lun felt a bit emotional. It was the fifth day since he returned from the Phantom Demon World. In another ten days, he would embark on another adventure. This frequency was indeed a bit high, and even with his mindset, he felt somewhat overwhelmed.

Feeling the urgency of time, Qin Lun quickened his steps and headed toward the Apostle mercenary headquarters. He was going to post a task related to fusing the bloodlines of Sapient Races.

The Apostle mercenary headquarters was a spire-topped tower building. The creators of Devil’s Horn were the five major Sapient Races, so the architectural styles in the city varied greatly. Apart from the central functional building area, the residential areas were divided into five major parts, each with its own distinct architectural style.

The mercenary headquarters followed the high tower style of the Wind Elemental Race. This Sapient Race loved tall and imposing steep buildings, and as a result, the Apostle mercenary headquarters was built to resemble a javelin.

The mercenary headquarters was protected by numerous patrol teams. Since many Apostles took on city tasks, some well-paid urban mercenary tasks often led to competition and disagreements. Thus, this area was also a key patrol zone for the managing races.

The patrol teams here were very powerful. Their members included not only high-rank warriors from the Demon Clan and Rakshasa Race but also Elf Mages, Wind Element sorcerers, and Gnome snipers.

On either side of the pointed arch gate of the mercenary headquarters stood two Chaos Demons over twenty feet tall. The Chaos Demons had bull heads and human bodies, were extremely burly, and had a pair of broad demon wings behind them. They were a type of demon very close to high-level beings. In the old era of the Shattered Starry Sky, they were the personal guards of demon lords and were also known as Doomguards. These demons could not survive anywhere except in Apostle Cities like Devil’s Horn. It was not because they were not strong enough but because they would be hunted by other high-rank Apostles.

Standing at the entrance of the mercenary headquarters, Qin Lun was in no hurry to go in. He supported his elbow with his hand, stroked his chin, and examined the two demon guards.

The two Chaos Demons stared straight ahead, used to such gazes. There had even been high-rank Apostles who tried to tempt them with Shattered Crystals and equipment to draw some blood. If the reward was suitable, these two big guys did not mind exchanging a few hundred milliliters of Demon’s Blood for top-tier equipment.

Qin Lun had similar thoughts in his mind, but when he remembered he only had a pitiful 25,000 Shattered Crystals left, the cash-strapped doctor could only smack his lips and step into the mercenary headquarters.

As soon as he entered the door, a Wind Element approached him. This Wind Element was already in a high-rank form, with the upper body of a human and the lower body a whirlwind, resembling the genie from Arabian legends. However, this “genie” was not dressed in Islamic attire with a turban but wore a black suit as a greeter.

“Sir, the mercenary headquarters is happy to serve you!” the Wind Element said respectfully, bowing. “What kind of service do you need?”

“I want to post an information task!” Qin Lun handed his Identity Plate to the Wind Element.

There were eligibility restrictions for posting tasks at the mercenary headquarters. Only semi-permanent or higher city Apostles could post tasks in the city. Rogue Apostles and outsider Apostles needed to accumulate a certain amount of City Points to post tasks in Devil’s Horn.

“Please follow me!” The Wind Element led Qin Lun to a counter staffed by a beautiful Elf woman before leaving again.

“Happy to serve you!” the beautiful Elf woman said with a smile, nodding.

Qin Lun quickly explained his requirements and posted a C-rank mercenary information task at the headquarters. His earlier judgment had been off; he originally thought this information task would not require much, but after the Elf woman’s explanation, he realized his information task had to be classified as D-rank or higher.

The reward for a D-rank mercenary task started at 5,000 Shattered Crystals. The mercenary task rank was related to the task difficulty and Apostle rank. Qin Lun’s bloodline information task was not difficult, but Apostles who understood such information at least possessed bloodlines, meaning they needed to be at least second-tier high-rank Apostles.

Second-tier high-rank Apostles usually took on city tasks and rarely browsed options below D-rank. After some thought, Qin Lun even raised the task rank recommendation from the Elf woman by one level, listing it as a C-rank information task with a base reward of 10,000 Shattered Crystals.

The reason was that Qin Lun suddenly realized high-rank Apostles would hardly be interested in a D-rank task reward of 5,000 Shattered Crystals. Knowledge was wealth. Putting himself in their shoes, he felt he would not sell information on fusing other races’ bloodlines for just 5,000 Shattered Crystals.
