Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 1004: Matters Of Inquisition

When it came to report on the state of Herlbe’s assigned realm, there was not much to say, the revenant had things under control, all of the main players within the realm had already been dealt with, and although managing and ruling was not the goliath’s forte, he did have the Tsarina to help him in that regard.

So overall, everything was going well over there.

Next, Carnifex reported on the matter of controlling and culling any negator within the ranks of the Empire, the horned undead leader of the Erado worked closely with the inquisitors to ensure that there were no undead who lived in death walking around.

Although the work of the inquisitorial forces and Erado were expectedly focused on newly conquered territories, as it was where negators were most likely to arise, but Carnifex was used to that sort of work, and thus, did not have much to say about this, it was just business as usual on that front.

"...We have noticed a new trend in recent times however, certain of the undeads hailing from newly conquered territories, who showed no signs of living in death at first, have been turning into negators after exposure to livings, it seems like we need to devise a way to detect not only those who are negators, but also those with the potential to become negators"

"It is a bit of a headache, but thankfully, we know where to look for those, so far, those who became negators have always been undeads for a short amount of time, so we believe that simply making sure that they are not exposed to livings or their way of thinking will prevent that sort of incident in the future" Carnifex reported the issue, but naturally, he hadn’t waited for Loimos to seek and find a solution to the problem.

As such, the Empire was still without problems due to those who lived in death, although that was the case, it was something that was watched closely, for many believed that the mere existence of negators was a risk to security as livings might learn of it and attempt to use that against the Empire to cause internal strife...

Following this, Dimios, leader of the Verfolger, also made a report, which concerned the many areas and realms that had been conquered, where being conquered, or where going to be conquered, including realms with harsher conditions, or realms that were simply bizarre even compared to what the undeads had already seen before.

"The spearheads have been deployed to a realm that is similar to that of Lord Prikrip’s, without the corruption of the black fog, that is- Tall grey buildings with plenty of windows for the most part, and populated by humans alone that seemed to have quite the hang at inginery and the creation of concept mechanisms... Their unusual temperaments were found to be a good match for the restrictions the realm imposes early on" he said, Loimos showed no reaction, but the skeleton was aware that the ’spearheads’ were a bit of a contentious caste, solely made-up from undeads that were unusually cruel and with habits that most would call deeply unsavoury, if not for their profound loyalty to the Empire, they might be taken for negators with how they behaved against livings.

These were not the guys that were sent when the empire wanted to make the targeted livings swiftly accept undeath, but that way of acting that characterised the spearheads was still valuable as their non-physical traits, such the soul or mind were more closely aligned with that of livings than any other undeads, making them very efficient when in a realm that had certain restrictions.

"Currently, seven of them were sent ahead, and from the reports, they are hiding in a dilapidated building, waiting to adapt to the unique environment as the energies of this realm differ enough from ours to be disrupting... And they have already started to do their ’thing’, apparently- I don’t know why they include this in the report" commented Dimios, who honestly did not quite get why the spearheads were so fascinated by that sort of activity, especially with livings of all people.

Loimos did not care what the spearheads got up to as long as they completed their mission, and those fellows were actually trustworthy as the majority of them were actually vampires of Nosferatu, and since the vampire lord of foetid blood always had had the hardest time finding people capable of handling his blood, he had always put a lot of pressure on those that he directly transformed, and even seeking out those transformed by subordinates to show them the way too.

That attitude was still going strong to this day, so despite the odd tendencies, the spearheads were efficient agents...
