Chapter 783. Inviting The Guests
A soft knock.
When they got no answer, Mill tried again, a little harder this time, and she heard someone yelp before they sped to the door, pulling it open. Madeline stood in front of them, her hair in disarray and sleep marks were all over her face. She was dressed in nightclothes still, and it was clear she was just waking up.
Mauve could barely contain her surprise. It was well past evening. She hadn’t even considered the fact that Madeline might still be asleep, and she felt bad for interrupting the woman’s rest just so she could invite her for the first meal.
"My lady," Madeline curtsied as she caught sight of Mauve. "I apologize for presenting myself in such a state."
"No, I should apologize for waking you up," Mauve replied immediately. "I didn’t expect you to be asleep. That was a miscalculation on my part."
"No, no, no," Madeline replied, shaking her head vigorously. "This is my fault. Even though the bed is so comfortable, I had a very hard time falling asleep but eventually did, and I must have overslept." She kept her head down as she spoke.
"Oh, no. Don’t blame yourself. It’s your first day in a completely new environment and way of living. It will be no surprise if it takes you some time to adjust. Please take as long as you need," Mauve said.
"Thank you, Princess. I am grateful."
Mauve smiled at her. "If you’re not returning to bed, I’d like you to join us for the first meal. It doesn’t sound like you have eaten anything in a while. However, I can ask the servants to bring your meal to your room, but I would absolutely love it if you could join us."
