Chapter 757. Hands Full
Louis stood with the sharp point of a spear stuck to the ground. He used the spear to support his weight; he didn’t have the strength to stand on his own. This was a different spear as the Paler had broken the first one he used.
The Paler was finally down, not dead, just unconscious and to say he was exhausted was an understatement. The monster was pretty stubborn, and it was especially strenuous to fight it all on his own. All the guards went down pretty early, leaving only him to protect the entrance with an unfamiliar weapon.
When Jael and some of the guards who were specifically trained to fight vampires finally showed up, it was easy to use Kieran’s drug on it because Louis had worn it down, but that didn’t come without cost. He had been bitten a few times, and right now the bleeding wouldn’t stop, especially the one on his thigh, but the dark clothes he wore did a pretty good job of hiding the blood.
"You could have called for help," Jael stated.
Louis gasped as he held onto the spear for dear life. "You all had your hands full. I didn’t want to intrude." He smiled.
Jael narrowed his eyes, but he didn’t speak. Instead, he walked towards the unconscious Paler. It lay on the ground with its stomach exposed. The ash skin caught the light of the moon; green veins bulged and a nasty smell permeated the air. There wasn’t any indication that the beast was alive except for the light snore.
Jael kicked it. He exerted so much force that the creature leaped a few paces away. Suddenly, Jael turned to Louis, his gaze suspicious. "You should go inside."
"I am fine," Louis said, a little annoyed. He looked like a mess, and Jael didn’t even have a hair out of place. The band securing his hair was still in place, and Louis wondered if he fought.
"Don’t be silly, you’re bleeding. You were bitten, weren’t you?" Jael asked.
