Chapter 754. Horde of Humans
It has been two days since Jael found out Mauve used magic to set the Paler ablaze, resulting in its death, and no conversation about it has been brought up since then. Mauve did try, but she only used subtle hints that Jael didn’t buy into.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t push it, as she knew it would be best to give Jael more than enough time to think about it, but Mauve found herself growing impatient, and it was obvious she wasn’t the only one.
Louis would occasionally make eye contact with her at the dining hall, but sadly they couldn’t do more than that. Jael had given Mill strict orders not to let Mauve out of her sight. At least she was no longer confined to her room, but wherever she went, Mill went with her. Mauve understood Jael’s distrust, but it was still annoying.
All they could do now was wait and let Jael decide the flow of things, but with every passing minute, Mauve could feel herself slowly losing her mind. She had to find a way to speak to Louis. Even if they couldn’t convince Jael, at least she could speak to Louis about her other idea. Jael would probably be more receptive to that, but she didn’t want to tell him until he at least agreed to something.
It was a bit infuriating that he didn’t want to confirm anything. He just wanted to pretend it didn’t happen. "Maybe I should send a letter to Kieran?" Mauve suddenly blurted.
"What?" Mill asked.
"Oh, sorry," she laughed awkwardly, adjusting on the bed. "Was a bit lost in thought."
Mauve shook her head. She couldn’t do that. Jael would get mad. She promised she would do things his way. Unfortunately, this was how he decided to do it, and she would have to go with it. But she still needed to at least speak to Louis.
"Mill," Mauve called.
"Yes," Mill replied, a slight smile on her face.
"Could I ask you for a favor?" Mauve knew this was risky, but she would think of any excuse when the time came.
