Chapter 734. Kick
Mauve slowly opened her eyes. She knew immediately that she had slept in. She groaned as she rolled from her back to her side. She could never roll forward again, not until after the birth of the child, but that wasn’t why she was irked right now. Jael never woke her up. He always let her sleep in, and she hated that.
Mauve sat upright. Her sleeping schedule was all over the place. Since she slept during the night, it usually took a while for her to sleep during the day, which meant she woke up even later. Mauve was trying to change this, but whenever she slept during the day, it felt like her soul was being sucked out of her body, and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
She threw her legs over the bed and yawned. Other than her sleeping getting worse, Mauve had noticed a few other things. One, her temperature was increasing—not that she was sick, but it was just annoyingly hot. The second was ridiculous, and she was convinced she was just imagining things. There was no way she was getting stronger.
Mauve laughed at the idea. Oversleeping must have done a number on her brain. She stood up and stretched. However, her stretch was cut short. Mauve jerked, laughing—someone else was awake. She rubbed her stomach, triggering another kick.
The first time this had happened, she had been so scared and worried, she had immediately asked for Jael. However, the baby didn’t move again, and she had almost thought she had imagined it. But she could clearly remember the sensation. There was no way she had imagined that. It wasn’t until almost two nights later, and this time Jael was with her.
"Did you see that?" she asked with a mix of horror and excitement.
"I heard it," Jael replied, turning his eyes to her stomach as they lay in bed.
"What was that?" she asked, a bit worried.
"I think the baby is moving," Jael said, bringing his head closer as though to listen in.
