Chapter 727. You’re Impossible
"Jael didn’t tell me anything," she mumbled. "I don’t think he will read the letters either."
"Hmm, I don’t see why you’re worried about that. I can definitely see why he would avoid the letters. They would all be asking for confirmation or, worse, demanding an explanation. Jael would want to answer neither."
It had been over a week since he mentioned the letters, but it was clear he hadn’t read them and had no intention to either. It slightly bothered Mauve, but at the same time, she wondered if she just wanted something to fixate on to distract herself. From what exactly? Mauve wasn’t sure.
"Yeah, I suppose you’re right," Mauve replied.
"I am always right," he smirked.
Mauve glowered at him before standing up to leave. "Jael will be here any minute now," she replied.
Louis didn’t show any reaction. "Would you like me to go with you?" he asked as he started to clear the table.
"No," she replied. She always had one guard or two who followed her around when Jael wasn’t with her, and they also waited outside. "There is no need for that."
Louis looked hesitant, but he didn’t press and just let her go. Mauve slowly made her way to the door and knocked twice on the huge doors, and then the guard on the other side of the door opened it. She could probably open the doors herself if she pushed with all her might, but Mauve didn’t see any reason to exert that amount of energy when she could just get someone to open it for her.
The guard bowed as she walked out the door and then trailed behind her as she made her way towards the stairs. Mauve wanted to go meet Jael. He was either in his study or outside. If it was the latter, she would just wait for him in one of the rooms.
Mauve wasn’t even at the stairs when she heard a familiar voice. "Are you sure she isn’t in her room?"
