Speaking of Jael, where is he? The first meal should have ended a while ago," she asked, looking from Sabrina to Mill. Knowing Jael, he wasn’t the type to stay away for so long. He would have barged into her room already, even though he had no business here, and hung around in the corner staring.
Neither of them answered immediately, as though they were looking for an appropriate response. She frowned and was about to repeat her question when Sabrina spoke up.
"Waiting for you," Sabrina said and strutted closer. "If you are happy with how you look, there is no need for all these questions. Let’s go down to the party."
"But you ladies aren’t even ready," Mauve commented with worry in her eyes.
"It will take us seconds," Sabrina said.
"I don’t like parties," Mill lied.
"You have to be there," Mauve insisted. The last thing she wanted was to be at the party all by herself, especially with the lords who were all clearly displeased with the way things ended yesterday. She had won on all grounds, and she could imagine a lot of them didn’t like that.
"As you wish, my lady," Mill smiled at her and then slowly pushed her toward the door. "Don’t worry, I will be there before you know it."
Sabrina opened the door to reveal Louis dressed up in a coat and a bow. All the women stopped to stare.
"Louis," Mauve spoke, finally finding her voice. "I never would have believed you’d be—"
"Shush," he replied. "I can just tell you’re about to say something I won’t like."
