Chapter 710. Open Your Hearts
"Have I not proven myself enough? Or do you all intend to keep holding on to the fact that I didn’t ascend the throne until a decade after my parents’ deaths?" Jael paused dramatically as he scanned the crowd.
"I have only been on the throne for no more than a year, and in that time, we have made more progress than in decades. You complain about giving up keeping humans as slaves and now drinking blood from bags, but we have more blood now than we have ever had. They are also definitely easier to transport than humans. You can travel with as many bags as you want, never worrying. Vampires can be saved from Palers’ attacks faster. Not to mention the research and results Lord Kieran has done in the past months. I don’t think your complaints are fair, Lord Phelan and your accusation is baseless. Not a day goes by that I don’t try to make our lives a little easier."
It took a second for the lords to react to Jael’s words. Whispers floated through the hall. Suddenly, Lord Drusile stood up.
"Lord Phelan did go too far by questioning your loyalty, Sire." He paused and turned to Phelan, who immediately looked ashamed.
"Yes," the lord admitted. "Please pardon this one for misspeaking, Sire."
Jael didn’t acknowledge Phelan’s words. Instead, he kept his gaze glued to Drusile. The lord realized Jael wanted him to keep speaking, so he resumed.
"However, it doesn’t change the fact that the Primus’ mate is a human, which is very far from what vampires stand for. A human mate, that is unheard of."
"Lord Drusile, do you say my marking is false? You can tell, can you not?"
"That isn’t the only requirement needed. She is human; that is more than enough to disqualify her."
