Chapter 683. Queen of Vampires
Mauve felt cold at Danag’s words. She had only considered the part where she was Jael’s mate as his lover. She had not looked at it from the perspective of the role she had to play in the kingdom as the Primus’ mate—the literal Queen of vampires.
"Please don’t overthink it," Danag said as she froze. "I just wanted to bring this to your attention, and I want you to be aware of your role. Human or not, the Primus has chosen you, and that is really all that matters."
Mauve nodded, but she could hear her internal screams. The doubts and the worry were slowly drowning her. Did she have what it took to be the Queen of vampires? Did Jael make the right choice? She knew he did. She didn’t want anyone else to be next to Jael as she was, which brought the question: Did she have what it took to lead, let alone lead vampires?
"I am here to help. Whatever you might need, please do not fail to ask, and know that your actions are also a reflection of the Primus."
"I truly cannot tell if you are here to help me, Danag, or if you want to see me crack," Mauve said as she dropped to the bed with heavy shoulders.
"Please, don’t say that, my lady. I know I have much to prove, but I would never try to sabotage you. Rather, I want you to come to terms with this rather quickly. For your good and that of the Primus, you can no longer casually exist in the castle as you once did. You need to understand your power and use it. If you don’t, they will walk all over you. If you think what I say now would make you crack, I very well fear you are not ready, and we don’t have time to slowly let you build your armor. The Lords are already starting to arrive; you don’t have much time left."
Mauve didn’t know if she should be grateful to Danag or if she should send him out of the room. She almost thought he was nicer when he didn’t approve of her. At least he was less harsh with his words.
"You have definitely given me a lot to think about, but I would have liked not to hear this on the day I find out that Vae’s mother is dead. I am grateful for the insight, but I don’t approve of the way you have decided to bring it to my attention. It feels a little cruel, Danag, and for one who says they are on my side, this looks very much against me." Mauve stood to her feet as she spoke, looking down at Danag.
"I apologize," Danag replied. "I plead that you overlook this mishap of mine. I was unaware of this, and I simply wanted to convey my worries. I was impatient because I feared I might not get another opportunity to speak to you alone. If you will be so kind as to let this slide, I will make sure never to repeat this mistake again."
"Danag, you don’t think I can handle this, right?" Mauve suddenly asked.
"I have never said that, my lady."
