The Vampire King's Possession

Chapter 680. Simply For This Moment

The next day came quickly, and soon enough, Mauve was dressed for the first meal. She felt refreshed and was in a good mood. Jael gave her a knowing look as she ate her breakfast, and she had to fight the urge to smack him; with the way she was blushing, she was worried everyone would be able to tell.

The first meal was quiet, and no one brought up the announcement Jael made the day before. Jevera was also seated at the table with a very sour look on her face. Aside from the killing look in her eyes, there was barely anything out of place.

Mauve tore her gaze away from the vampire, noticing that she didn’t look in her direction. She wasn’t complaining; she preferred to be completely ignored rather than otherwise. She already knew Jevera would never accept her as Jael’s mate, and she couldn’t blame her. She knew she would feel the same way if the roles were reversed, which was a bit funny, as she had told Louis she would be fine if Jael picked a mate. But now that the reality of that was completely impossible, she knew she wouldn’t be able to bear it simply because of how she felt right now.

She turned to look at Jael with a bright smile on her face. It was still a little hard to believe that he chose her, even though it was clearly not the expected thing to do. The fact that she was carrying his child made this just the cherry on top. She couldn’t help but think she had been born simply for this moment.

Jael raised his head and caught her gaze. He frowned a little as he seemed to try to figure out if something was wrong, but he quickly smiled back when he noticed her smile. However, his smile quickly turned to a smirk, and Mauve was forced to turn her face away. She knew immediately that it would be at her own risk to keep staring.

At the end of the first meal, Jael handed Mauve to Louis. He didn’t seem very pleased by this, but Erick had whispered to him towards the end of the meal, and Jael’s expression had changed.

She could tell it was serious, so serious that he couldn’t see her to her room himself, leaving her with Louis. As Jael walked away with Erick, Louis stretched out his palm to Mauve, and she accepted.

"I truly cannot remember the last time we were alone," Louis said and looked down at Mauve with a smile.

"I don’t think it has been that long," she replied, unable to help smiling back at him.
