Chapter 664. My Lady
Mauve didn’t know how to react to Jael’s harsh words and didn’t realize she was crying until he pulled her to himself. He hadn’t spoken to her this harshly in a very long time, and she didn’t think she had done anything wrong for him to yell at her like that. However, the instant he wrapped his arms around her and apologized, she immediately felt better. Besides, she could hear how awful he felt in his voice, and she didn’t want him to feel too bad as she did interrupt him.
From the tone of his voice when she had opened the door, she could tell what he was talking about was something that meant a lot to him. She wondered what it was. She had barely been able to make out any words except "regular" as she had come here in a rush and had pushed the door open in the same manner.
"Well," Mauve said, looking up at Jael, cheering up very quickly. Her face was still littered with sprinkles of tears as she looked up at him. "Mill keeps calling me ’My lady.’ It is so weird, and I think Louis put her up to it."
Mauve heard a snicker and poked her head out from under Jael’s arm to see Louis standing by Jael’s seat. "I knew it!" she cried. "You put her up to it, didn’t you?" she accused.
"If I said I did no such thing, would you believe me?" Louis asked with a smirk.
Jael pulled her out from under his arm so he could see her face again. "And what’s so wrong with her calling you ’My lady’?" Jael asked with a serious expression, using his thumbs to wipe the tears off her face.
"I’m fine with Mauve," Mauve cried. "Louis calls me Mauve, and she used to, and now she calls me ’My lady’ all of a sudden. I can bet my life that Louis put her up to this."
"I did not," Louis’s voice reached her ears. "And don’t bet your life so easily."
She stuck her head out from under Jael’s arm to look at Louis. "Why? Are you worried lightning might strike you?" she asked, sticking out her tongue.
