Chapter 603. Nothing’s Wrong
Jael gave Mauve a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. She knew immediately that he was going to tell her it was nothing to worry about.
Her heart squeezed at this and she could already feel the disappointment even before he gave his reply.
"There is nothing wrong," he said, his smile holding in place even as he spoke. "Things have just been a little busy is all. I want you to concentrate on getting better."
Mauve nodded, his words were so expected she could have recited them with him. As much as she hated it, she didn’t press.
She returned his smile, hoping that at least hers reached her eyes. "I understand, I will do what I need to do."
His smile brightened and the corner of his eyes wrinkled as it matched his smile. She almost laughed at this. She would take consolation in the fact that her health was more important to him than anything else.
"Where do you want to go?" He asked again.
She wondered if he felt relief at the fact that she didn’t press but wondered about what could be so bad that he would rather tell her nothing was wrong no matter how many times she asked.
"The Library," she responded. "I haven’t been there in a while. I… I just want to read some books."
She forced a smile at him realizing she almost told on herself. Louis would not be pleased but neither would he be if he found out what she was about to do.
"Okay," he took her hand again and led her up the stairs.
